Responsibilities


Performs office automation duties using word processing software and related hardware equipment to produce a variety of correspondence

, reports, and office forms and other written material in final form.

Presents data in the required format or develops a format based on knowledge of the system, objectives, and available data.

Edits and reformats electronic drafts prepared by staff for grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, style, arrangement, and conformance to procedural requirements.

Provides general clerical support to the office staff such as travel, property, and purchasing.

Provides general information on the organizational functions and procedures of the unit to answer routine inquiries, refer phone calls and visitors, and provide general non-technical information concerning the operations of the unit.

For the GS-4 level: Applicants must have one year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work which provided the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position being filled;

OR an associates degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school;

OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of qualifying experience are: answering telephone calls, taking messages, greeting visitors, providing information, filing, typing, and/or maintaining records.

For the GS-5 level: Applicants must meet one of the specialized experience statements as defined and described below. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level;

OR a bachelors degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school;

OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: performing general clerical support such as greeting visitors, maintaining files, and typing letters; assisting in the analysis of incoming routine and controlled correspondence, including mail, faxes, and documents; reviewing sections of agency or organizational directives and routine procedures to perform routine tasks such as correspondence work, filing processing mail, and assisting with travel, property management and procurement of office supplies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
