As a Licensing Associate at the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO), you will be critical to the regulation of this growing industry. You will go to work every day knowing that you are an important part of a team that keeps the people of Maine safe.

This is entry-level regulatory work which offers the opportunity for career development and advancement- both within the Bureau and across Maine state government. This work primarily consists of data entry and communicating with licensees. Typical daily tasks and duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting initial review of license applications.

  • Processing approved applications and entering associated data.

  • Tracking, monitoring, and processing liquor license violations and any associated workflow management.

  • Corresponding with members of the industry and the public.

  • Reconciling funds and accounts, processing refunds, and collecting protested checks and incorrect payments.

  • Instructing industry members to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and best practices.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to:

  • Prepare Excel worksheets and perform data entry.

  • Stay current and understand, discuss, explain, and apply applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures, forms, computerized systems, and terminology.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, including writing concise reports and composing standard business correspondence.

  • Reconcile funds, complete refunds, and process protested payments.

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).

Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of modern office practices to perform complex, varied office support tasks, and 2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, and Office Associate I.
