Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is hiring for an Office Assistant II located in Sitka!This position, under supervision, provides a full range of program, clerical, and administrative support for the Commercial Fisheries Management division in the Sitka Office.The position provides administrative support to departmental employees, general public, and other industry related personnel by collecting, compiling, explaining, and distributing commercial fishing news releases, management plans, regulations, statistical data, fishery opening and closures, licensing and local fishery registrations, policies and/or procedures.The position is the primary person to enter salmon seine, gillnet, pot shrimp, herring, geoducks and sea cucumber fish tickets for the Sitka Area into a database.
The position also enters stream escapement surveys, opening/closing fishing times, subsistence permits, and other sampling/research data in various databases.The position will provide assistance with personnel paperwork, budgets, and travel requests.This position will act as the primary receptionist for the Commercial Fisheries Management division in the Sitka office.Our ideal applicant will possess some or all of the following desired strengths (In order to advance to the interview phase of this recruitment, use the cover letter to address each of the traits listed below.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or the equivalent.ANDOne year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.Substitution:Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).Special Note: "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles.
