Job Description:
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Office Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to Pathway Dean of Manufacture and Transportation, academic faculty and students of the of the college on the Chesapeake Campus.
Functional
Responsibilities:
- Provides clerical support to the Pathway Dean while working at the Chesapeake Campus.
- Assist with entering class schedules, procurement, and textbook orders.
- Maintain accurate/detailed files related to purchasing, expenditures, inventories, and student data. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
- Order, stock, and inventory supplies from the college warehouse for the pathway.
- Schedule appointments and meetings.
- Communicate with other departments throughout the college to process a variety of college documents.
- Utilize excellent customer service skills while interacting with a variety of constituencies such as students, faculty, staff and Administration.
- Assist with preparing faculty contracts.
- Triage students, internal, and external customers to assess and meet their needs.
- Prepare and send standard office correspondence and forms.
- Receive and file course syllabi; checking for compliance with TCC standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Moderate to excellent ability to use the applications in the Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF, and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate responsibilities within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
- Resourceful and able to work independently in the absence of supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain databases for use in tracking information such as confidential student data, fiscal expenditures, and inventories.
- Ability to execute effective customer service techniques with internal and external individuals to establish and maintain positive rapport with staff, faculty, administrators, and the public.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and learn new procedures quickly.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced office environment while balancing multiple, competing priorities.
- Ability to work as a team player.

- Knowledge of Student Information Systems.
- Proven experience providing administrative and clerical support in an office setting; preferably in an academic setting
