What you will be doing:

Located in the Anchorage office, this position supports the Public Guardian section by providing clerical support through the independent performance of mail sorting and distribution; prioritizing time sensitive document distribution; handling incoming checks; scanning documents and tracking mail, documents, and checks as required. This position requires some independent judgment and initiative in prioritizing the administrative tasks to be completed, prioritizing time-sensitive mail, and deciding the appropriate action to be taken by applying the organization`s programs, policies, and regulations.

The Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) provides legal advocacy and guardianship services to vulnerable Alaskans. With offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, and Palmer, the OPA/PG Section specifically advocates for and manages the needs of 1,700+ incapacitated adults statewide and provides advocacy for victims of elder fraud.

The working environment you can expect:

The Anchorage OPA/PG offices are located in downtown Anchorage across from the Captain Cook Hotel.  We offer free parking.

The Public Guardian Section operates as a team.  The Guardians themselves work in a four-team structure with the support staff supporting all four teams in a congenial, hard-working environment.

Who we are looking for:

  • Ability to work independently and organize and prioritize the workload

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Ability to pay attention to detail and maintain a high level of accuracy

  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite tools

  • Experience working in a professional office setting with experience handling high volumes of mail a preferred qualification

One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:

Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note: 

"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
