The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 1 position at Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) located in Anchorage,Alaska.
Effective July 1, 2021 the wage for this position increased by 1%. The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase.
What you will be doing:
Provide support to the on duty shift staff in the Booking Office by performing a variety of duties including data entry and retrieval, phone support, releases from CRCs, assembling Court Ordered Report files, disseminate pertinent information to public and inmates, filing, copying and faxing of documents. This position requires an extensive knowledge of the policies and working standards of a correctional booking office. This position's schedule is week on/ week off, 75 hours per week with alternating day shift and night shift every 3 months.

High school diploma or G.E.D.;
Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);
A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.
Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;
Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or
Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware - this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.
