Occupational Training Instructor - Welding

Position Title Occupational Training Instructor - Welding Campus Scotch Plains Department Center for Economic & Workforce Development Full-time, Part-time, Adjunct Part Time Exempt or Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Regular,Temporary, or Grant Grant General Description

Assume the responsibilities for the instruction and management of all educational activities of the goals of the UCNJ Welding Program. Report to the Director CEWD. Welding facility location is currently located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Instructs and manages the welding training program.

• Identifies new resources for the program, as needed.

• Participates in student recruitment, as needed.

• Make recommendations for the changes in curriculum if necessary.

• Responsible for all classroom instruction, course materials and equipment inventory.

• Maintain daily attendance.

• Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly (if applicable) progress reports.

• Recommend potential employer partners to director.

• Maintains student records as required.

• Travel to other campus locations as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.

• At all times exercise professionalism and confidentiality with staff and students.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma, or equivalent

• AWS Certification in Welding.

• Specific knowledge and experience in occupational sector.

Experience

Preferred Experience:

• Relevant instructional experience or five to ten years industry experience preferred.

• Prior experience with under-served populations a plus.

Competencies and Skills Required

• Ability to multi-task in a busy environment.

• Ability to work with persons of varied education, experience, social and economic backgrounds.

• Ability to remain discreet with student and staff information.

• Ability to meet deadlines.

• Flexibility of schedule.

• Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• This position's duties are performed in a welding shop and classroom, based on the activity scheduled.

• The ability to lift 25 pounds minimum is required.

Terms of Employment

Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Program is anticipated to run weekday evenings. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
