TITLE: Occupational Therapy Assistant

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant program and hold a current NCBOT license to practice as an occupational therapy assistant in the state of North Carolina. Pediatric experience is preferred.

1.All appicants must upload a legible copy of an official college transcript showing the completion of an Occupational Therapy Assistant Program from an accredited college/school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a caseload of approximately 50-100 monthly student treatments with supervision from the Occupational Therapist.

  • Collaborates with the Occupational Therapist regarding the progress of students on caseload and reports significant changes in student status.

  • Writes progress notes following each treatment session and documents all communication regarding students.

  • Administers (but not interprets) standardized tests as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

  • Communicates with the classroom teachers regarding the students' progress and gives classroom suggestions to help meet IEP goals.

  • Supervises teachers (caregivers)/students in return demonstration of therapy procedures taught to them.

  • Grades student IEP progress quarterly and submits copy to teacher to send home with student report card.

  • Informs supervising OT of student IEP expiration date, IEP planning meetings, and IEP team meetings.

  • Attends IEP meetings as needed.

  • Assists with fabricating splints and other adaptive equipment as needed.

  • Attends OT/PT staff meetings.

  • Assists with providing inservices for school staff

  • Assists with Occupational Therapy Department program planning and ordering of equipment.

  • Maintains professional license criteria according to guidelines set by the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy including 10 hours of continuing education per year.

  • Submits billable minutes of direct OT treatment per Medicaid billing procedures.

  • Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity.

  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.

  • Must have finger dexterity and be physically able to perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

  • Hand and finger dexterity for accurate input and output of computer data.

  • Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word.
