This position provides clinical OT services to assigned caseload of Adult ID/DD individuals living in a state DD facility in Kinston, NC.  This therapist is responsible for planning, development, implementation, and coordination all aspects of OT service delivery through the transdisciplinary team process for assigned caseload.  Job responsibilities include the following:

  •  Provides evaluation, consultation, program planning, treatment, and in-servicing as related to addressing identified occupational performance needs.

  • Works collaboratively with other professionals in adaptive seating systems and oral motor/swallowing assessments.

  • The OTR/L is responsible for addressing adaptive equipment needs, participation in the team process, and provides consultative services.

  • This therapist will have the opportunity to work with COTA/L that is assigned to the caseload and OT students.

Work Location: Occupational Therapy Department

Work Hours: Monday - Friday

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following:

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of occupational therapy as applicable to residents with IDD and residents with multiple diagnosis.

  •  Knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, and skeletal biomechanics.

  • Working knowledge of positioning, sensory processing, behavioral techniques, and developmental disabilities.

  • Skills in the design and fabrication of a variety of splints, supports/devices and seating systems for multi-handicapped resident.

  • Ability to evaluate resident, provide treatment and denote progress in the evaluative evaluation in a transdisciplinary team meetings.

  • Ability to work effectively with residents, caregivers, medical, nursing, and other professionals on a routine basis.

Management Preferences:

  • Experience in one or more of the following:   PAMs, kinesiotaping, aquatics therapy, dual diagnosis (ID/MI, ID/Autism), mental health experience/mental health groups, community re-intergration, functional cognitive/executive function activities, adaptive equipment/environmental modifications.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, time management skills and flexibility in daily schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in heavy work of exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Ability to physically stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push/pull and lift to complete job tasks.
