Responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy procedures and modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician in an effort to restore function and to allow patients to reach their maximum performance in all occupations. Occupational Therapists are also responsible for supervising any occupational therapy assistants. This position will be responsible for serving the pediatric outpatient population part-time, possibly going into the school system setting and part-time outpatient orthopedics. Will also be required to perform some OT services in the acute care setting.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school/program of Occupational Therapy
EXPERIENCE:
One year experience as an Occupational Therapist recommended but not required.
Able to perform Occupational Therapy in the outpatient setting; prefer pediatric experience but not required.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
Current license as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Tennessee.
Current BCLS certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Observes and evaluates treatment affect. Recommends change to physician, if needed
Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments, as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Formulates a teaching plan based on Identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate
Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care
Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean
Completes annual education requirements
Maintains regulatory requirements
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time
Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly
Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion
Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled
Attends staff meetings, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (COI) activities
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department
