As a team member at HCR ManorCare your duties may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Plan and administer prescribed occupational therapy treatment program for patients to facilitate rehabilitation following illness, disease, or injury.

  • Take patient medical history.

  • Discuss special equipment, such as wheelchairs and eating aids, and instruct patients on how to use that equipment

  • Sit and evaluate a patient s home or workplace and, based on the patient s health needs, identify potential improvements, such as labeling kitchen cabinets for an older person with poor memory

  • Required to develop a treatment plan for patients, laying out the types of activities and specific goals to be accomplished

  • Demonstrate exercises for example, joint stretches for arthritis relief that can help relieve pain for people with chronic conditions

  • Your main duties will be to observe patients doing tasks and ask them questions.


  • Currently licensed or registered as an occupational therapist by the state in which practicing, unless that State does not license occupational therapists or otherwise regulate the practice of occupational therapy. Is eligible to take or has successfully completed the NBCOT entry-level certification examination for occupational therapists.

  • Prior experience in Occupational Therapy/OT preferred, but not necessary.

Educational Requirements

Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or a foreign degree equivalent as accepted by US Citizenship and Immigration Services or a Bachelor's Degree or foreign degree equivalent plus 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience.

Essential Functions * Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor. * Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults; Able to provide therapy services in accordance with discipline specific scope of practice to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed. * Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards. * Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member as appropriate. * Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy. * Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services. * Completes all mandatory training which may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training. * Participates in weekend/holiday coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980.GL.24. * Team Work: Participates in conflict identification and resolution. Works cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program specific and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment. Additional Requirements * DPT is entry level for physical therapy; Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) * Delaware/New Jersey/Pennsylvania State license (permanent or temporary; as appropriate for location(s) to practice Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology as appropriate. All staff must maintain active DE licensure regardless of assignment, program or location. * BLS certification Basic Life Support (within 6 months of date of hire) and must be maintained for duration of employment. * Member of professional specialty organizations (APTA, AOTA, ASHA) preferred. * At least 3 months of previous experience, Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics is preferred. * Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred * Must have the ability to work well with others. * Regular attendance is required. * Good communications skills are required, both written and verbal.
