Must have experience working with people with Autism.
Helps people work on cognitive, physical, social, and motor skills. The goal is to improve everyday skills which allow people to become more independent and participate in a wide range of activities. For people with autism, OT programs often focus on play skills, learning strategies, and self-care. OT strategies can also help to manage sensory issues.
- Evaluates the patient’s current level of ability
- Creates goals and strategies that will allow the patient to work on key skills.
- Provides treatment plans for improving recognized challenges.
- Improves the patient’s quality of life through interventions.
- Plans, implements, and directs therapeutic programs for patients.
- Develops specific treatment goals and interventions to meet needs of patients.
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team that consults with other healthcare professionals in determining a total treatment plan and recommends changes based on individual observations and evaluations.
- Observes, analyzes, and records patients’ participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed.
Requirements
Education/Licensure
- Master’s degree required;
- State of Nevada Occupational Therapist licensure required;
Knowledge and Experience:
- Minimum one (1) year experience in related therapy field
- Works directly with the person with autism to practice skills and work towards goals that are written by the OT in the clinical treatment plan.
- Basic knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.
- Knowledge of assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics
