QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Educational: Bachelors' degree or higher and hold appropriate Indiana certification.

2.Qualifications:

  • Strong human relations skills, including professional tact, diplomacy, and presentation.

  • Ability to utilize 21st century technological skills to enhance teaching and learning.

SALARY BENEFITS: Salary range $50,000 - $92,000

ASSIGNED WORK DAYS PER YEAR: 185 days (Minimum School Year Days)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS REQUIRED:

  • Educational Requirements: Has completed all require field work, Bachelor's Degree in an accredited OT program. Successful completion of the National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy; Occupational Therapist must be licensed by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy. Licensed by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

  • Experience: OT experience in a public school is preferred, but not required.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS/PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide quality school-based occupational therapy services, which includes but is not limited to assessments and evaluations, intervention/treatment, IEP planning and implementation, related documentation, and communication between teachers, support staff, and families.

  • Demonstrates ability to work with staff, students and parents.

  • Organizes time effectively through excellent time management skills.

  • Knows and uses current theory and techniques in the field of occupational therapy.

  • Knows and uses current theory and techniques in the field of sensory, fine motor, and functional skills.

  • Has a high understanding of strategies for students with special needs.

  • Has knowledge of human development through the lifespan.

  • Has strong skills building relationships with students, staff, administrators, and families.

  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Foster and maintain a good relationship with pupils, staff, patrons, vendors and the community. Display tact, courtesy and excellent etiquette that demonstrates genuine care and concern for staff, students, parents and other members of the community. Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students. Collaborate with others across a variety of functions and backgrounds. Demonstrate proficient communication skills both verbally and in writing. Work independently with limited direction to effectively meet deadlines and mitigate stressful situations. Comply with all Corporation policies, procedures, and guidelines. Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and staff to integrate goals and therapies for students.

  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students in the area of fine motor and sensory issues.

  • Provides thorough assessments and diagnosis of students who are referred for suspected fine motor, sensory issues and students with Autism.

  • Is part of a collaborative team in developing an IEP for a student using data.

  • Is able to consult with physicians concerning student's medical needs.

  • Coordinate planning with other agencies or individuals involved with a student's movement to or leaving the school district.

  • Establish and maintain a confidential system of documentation for student referrals, record keeping, evaluation results, treatment progress and recommendations.

  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.

  • Is able to support students with a variety of needs including, sensory, personal care, processing skills, play, community integration, and written communication.

  • Has a strong work ethic and the ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment.

  • Is able to conduct and participate on a team for an assistive technology evaluation when needed, and plan appropriately for an individual student.

  • Makes recommendations on the architectural barriers, provision of classroom modifications, and safe transportation for students.

  • Demonstrates excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

  • Assists teachers in referring students with suspected occupational needs.

  • Is an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.

  • Projects a genuine care and concern for all students.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
