Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants for Outpatient Hand Therapy in Avon, CT

Select Physical Therapy in Avon Connecticut has an immediate need for a talented Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to join our team in a full time or part time capacity. COTA will be responsible for providing coverage at our outpatient center on Ensign. New graduate COTAs are welcome to apply, but keep in mind, you need to have hand therapy experience in clinicals to be considered. You MUST have hand therapy experience to be considered. Ideally two to three years of experience in hand therapy is best. Your schedule is negotiable and will be determined during interview but on average 20 hours per week for part time and full time is 32-40 hours to include some evenings until 7pm ideal.

Best practices and evidence-based programs are utilized for individualized patient care. You will work closely with our network of CHTs, working together in the region for support, education and schedule coverage. Our clinics are fully equipped to provide care to patients ranging from post-surgical, non-operative to work conditioning. You will have the opportunity to work closely with excellent hand surgeons. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the evaluation, plan of care, treatment, re-evaluation, discharge, and appropriate communications of high quality hand therapy services to patients and customers.

  • Develop treatment plans, supervise assistants and aides, contribute to case management, and provide quality patient care.

  • Maintain positive level of interaction with facilities and clients. Enhance and expand client relations with facilities and their staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school for Occupational Therapy Assisting

  • National registration and state licensure or registration REQUIRED

  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

  • Valid state driver's license

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds dead weight alone.

  • Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day/shift.

  • Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to evaluate, diagnose and monitor patient needs and to maintain accurate records, recognize people and provide directions.

  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions.

  • Ability to push wheeled equipment through the facility.

  • Possess fine motor skills for legible and accurate writing of reports, charting, scheduling, daily correspondence and presentations, either manually or through use of dictation equipment.

  • Possess fine motor skills for effective and efficient handling of diagnostic or therapeutic equipment.

An ideal hand therapist is an occupational therapist who is also a certified hand therapist (CHT). We can consider an occupational therapist without CHT but you MUST have solid splinting experience we have a full time CHT and COTA on staff completing our team. At minimum you must have completed a level II fieldwork in hands. We are open to consider a variety of schedules including full time, part time and per diem. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7a-6p. Depending on your interest, we will discuss an ideal schedule. All schedules will include some evenings until 6pm for our population.
