Summary

The OHN acts as a business partner to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs. OH, program elements include: immediate care for illness and injury, health surveillance, job placement, regulatory compliance, case management and health promotion. Provides healthcare services to employees or persons who become ill or injured at the facility. Practices within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and Corporate requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing an effective occupational health program at the facility level

  • Implements a facility-level occupational health program to meet employee health risks, establishes goals for health management programs and measures outcomes

  • Provides a system for the immediate care of employee and visitor injuries and illnesses, including coordinating a medical emergency response team

  • Actively participates in the root cause analysis process to understand those events

  • Implements appropriate job placement and health surveillance of employees, examples include: required hearing conservation program and audiometry, respiratory surveillance, and management of reproductive and chemical hazard exposures

  • Maintains electronic and hard copy documentation systems for occupational health record keeping and confidentiality

  • Responsible for all required reporting (i.e., OSHA, Workers Compensation, etc.). Submits reports to support case management, cost control, budgeting, and occupational health metrics among others

  • Implements an effective case management program including coordination with other health care professionals, human resources, department managers, attorneys, and insurance carrier representatives or third party administrators to facilitate timely return to work and appropriate utilization of benefits

  • Facilitates and coordinates a risk-based health promotion program to enhance employee and family well being

  • Provides health-related counseling for employees within the scope of nursing knowledge and practice

  • Partners with other health and safety professionals to recognize health hazards and environmental risk factors in the workplace that may cause negative health impacts among employees

  • Actively participates in determining strategies to reduce those risks

  • Participates in the periodic evaluation of the facility occupational health program and takes measures to achieve continuous improvement

  • Stays within the OH budget and manages the worker's compensation loss run review

  • Establishes a relationship with an external physician to provide support as needed for the occupational health program

  • Monitor and coordinate the relationship with an external occupational health clinic to achieve Baxter occupational health and case management objectives

  • Responsible for the on-site drug-testing program, including follow-up with outcomes as appropriate

  • Leads the ergonomic program using ergonomic principles to perform ergonomic assessments, suggest solution, and track programs to completion

  • Works with EHS to support risk reduction for employees experiencing potentially work-related musculo-skeletal symptoms

  • Maintains professional continuing education and secures task-based certification as appropriate to practice (ex. pulmonary function, hearing testing)

  • Facilitates compliance with applicable health and safety regulations

  • Maintains an Irvine Plant incident reporting program for injuries, illnesses, near misses, and first aid cases

  • Assists in monitoring of industrial hygiene hazards and corrective actions to mitigate the same

  • Assists with safety related issues within the facility

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with current license to practice required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical nurse setting (BSN preferred)

  • OH Certification preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as occupational health and safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Ability to speak effectively and provide training before groups of customers or employees of organization

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as sums and averages and should be able to use spreadsheet software to display bar charts, pie charts, trend line charts and the like for occupational health-related data analysis

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Capacity to apply critical thinking and problem solving to health and safety issues

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and ability to use spreadsheet software (Excel), word processing software (MS Word) and PowerPoint Additionally, employee must be able to electronically manage folders and files within own computer and within network drive system

  • Must be able to research items on the Internet and retrieve appropriate graphics images (cut and paste clip art images) plus ability to scan documents and convert documents to pdf format

  • Worker's compensation and case management experience required

  • Experience in occupational health program delivery

  • Knowledge of regulations regarding worker health and safety work injuries, and company disability plans

  • Ability to develop, manage and communicate occupational health programs

  • Proficient in basic computer skills

  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED, occupational hearing conservation and pulmonary function testing preferred

  • Knowledge of ergonomic principles, tools, and corrective actions desirable

  • Knowledge of principles, tools, and use of industrial hygiene desirable

  • Knowledge of OSHA and/or Cal OSHA safety programs desirable

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese desirable

The Senior Occupational Health Nurse will assist in coordinating a cross functional health and wellness team. Working alongside the Site Lead, Senior Coordinator, EAP and Wellness staff, the team will be responsible for the provision of Global Health services including Occupational Medicine, and Wellness & Health Promotion programs. Services are provided under the mentorship or supervision of the Site Lead. Key responsibilities: * Provides clinical healthcare services including: Nursing care for Injuries & illnesses which includes responding to onsite medical emergencies, Case Management of Occupational Injuries and Illness, Medical Surveillance examination and general health education and coaching * Responsible for compliance associated with occupational health at the locations they support including, compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and recordkeeping and J&J Global Health standards. * Drives increased health outcomes including reducing population health risks, managing and eliminating workplace health risks and supporting improved business outcomes through advancing employee health and wellbeing. * Provides various preventive health evaluations and tests in accordance with Global Health policies and protocols. * Maintains accurate clinical records, utilizing approved medical, nursing and statistical formats, including use of an Electronic Medical Record. * Maintains and cultivates a safe working environment. * Acquires knowledge of the occupational hazards and treatment for exposures for assigned locations. * Partners with other members of the Global Health team as well as Human Resources, Safety and management partners to encourage an integrated team approach to solving problems. * Participates in the development of Site Business plans supporting key Global Health initiatives * Participates in the Employee Development Program process.
