The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office, is recruiting for an Occupational Licensing Examiner located in Anchorage!

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for reviewing alcohol and/or marijuana applications for Board approval as well as fielding customer service calls from licensees, the public, government agencies, attorneys, and legislative representatives.  Additionally, you will be assisting with different aspects of the board meetings and gain working knowledge of statutes and regulations for both alcohol and marijuana programs in order to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

In your role you will be an essential part of the licensing team that reviews applications for alcohol and/or marijuana establishments and deems them complete for the Boards approval.

The working environment you can expect:  

The position is part of  seven-person team consisting of licensing examiners, an administrative assistant, and two supervisors located in Anchorage in the State of Alaska Atwood building. We are located on the 16th floor with a spectacular view of the inlet, close to the park strip for those summer walks, and within walking distance to various eating establishments. Designated parking is provided, paid by the employer.

The position is 37.5 hours a week. The incumbent must be available to work between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. 

Who we are looking for:

AMCO is looking for a candidate that possess some or all the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to analyze application information against statutory and regulatory requirements and determine compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people on complex tasks, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, work independently as well as in a team, and work well under pressure with numerous interruptions and conflicting deadlines

  • Successful ability to interpret, comprehend, and communicate statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Proficiency with common office software programs such as Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Classification Study Notice

This position is currently under review as part of the Licensing Specialist Study; therefore, the title and/or pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon implementation of this class study.

One year of technical or paraprofessional experience in an administrative field or in permit or license application review. Qualifying experience includes work such as examining, approving, and processing license applications; applying established regulations, requirements, procedures, and operations; reviewing the accuracy and completeness of routine documents; researching current accounts and source documents; assisting in the preparation of reports reflecting the examinations made, discrepancies noted, and the corrections needed; and/or researching federal and state laws and regulations. The required experience includes work such as Accounting Technician 1, Administrative Assistant 1, Insurance Licensing Examiner 1, PFD Technician 2, Wage-Hour Technician, or similar job classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Two years of advanced level clerical experience or providing secretarial or administrative support with an agency executive such as a deputy or assistant commissioner, division director, or executive director of a board or commission. The required experience includes work such as Executive Secretary 1, Office Assistant 2, Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative 1, Secretary, or similar job classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:

Post-secondary education from an accredited college may be substituted for either technical/paraprofessional or clerical experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
