Division of Corporations, Business & Professional Licensing,

 is recruiting for an Occupational Licensing Examiner with the Corporations Unit in Juneau!

What you will be doing:

This position involves technical examination of corporate filings received by the Corporations section for compliance with Alaska Statutes and regulations, which may include associated professional and business licensing program requirements.

Daily work includes approval or denial of corporate filing documents, allowing entities to conduct business in the state and justifies the statutory basis for action taken. Answers inquiries and provided technical assistance by telephone and email.

The corporations team is located in the Juneau state office building on the 9th floor. After the probationary period this position may qualify for telework. The atmosphere is team oriented, promoting independent thought, and the sharing of ideas and solutions.

Who we are looking for:

These are the knowledge, skills and abilities that are required for this position:

  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities, meeting deadlines, and work well under pressure with numerous interruptions, without compromising quality or quantity, while remaining calm, professional, organized and accurate.

  • Experience enforcing policies, procedures, statutes and regulations through an approval or denial process and convey this information from an instructional and positive approach.

  • Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.

  • Ability to work accurately, independently and cohesively within a team environment with little review from supervisor

  • Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.

One year of technical or paraprofessional experience in an administrative field or in permit or license application review. Qualifying experience includes work such as examining, approving, and processing license applications; applying established regulations, requirements, procedures, and operations; reviewing the accuracy and completeness of routine documents; researching current accounts and source documents; assisting in the preparation of reports reflecting the examinations made, discrepancies noted, and the corrections needed; and/or researching federal and state laws and regulations. The required experience includes work such as Accounting Technician 1, Administrative Assistant 1, Insurance Licensing Examiner 1, PFD Technician 2, Wage-Hour Technician, or similar job classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Two years of advanced level clerical experience or providing secretarial or administrative support with an agency executive such as a deputy or assistant commissioner, division director, or executive director of a board or commission. The required experience includes work such as Executive Secretary 1, Office Assistant 2, Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representative 1, Secretary, or similar job classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:

Post-secondary education from an accredited college may be substituted for either technical/paraprofessional or clerical experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

CLASSIFICATION STUDY NOTICE

This position is currently under review as part of the Licensing Specialist Study; therefore, the title and/or pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon implementation of this class study.
