We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Occupational Health Nurse within our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Pasadena, Texas.
Essential Job Duties:
This position is accountable for management of occupational health at the Pasadena and Deer Park Plants manufacturing facilities including: supportive and dynamic interactions with Human Resources, Health Environment and Safety and Manufacturing to manage and facilitate successful Occupational Health Programs, Clinic Operations, Short Term Disability return to work and OPC developed on site Health Improvement Programs.
Build strong relationships with employees, site management, OxyChem Corporate and Site Medical Team, HESS, and local medical community.
Understand the facility exposure issues and promote accurate understanding of workplace risks.
Manage and maintain the Occupational Health facility in a cost-effective manner
Provide direct care and first-aid within scope of practice and local medical orders as defined by state law for emergencies, occupational & non-occupational injuries/illnesses.
Work with senior occupational health nurse to support the 5 OxyChem Houston locations
Facilitate effective use of contract medical providers and clinics to meet facility objectives
Schedule and perform nursing portions of medical surveillance examinations per OSHA standards and OxyChem HESS Procedures.
Medical history documentation, EKG, audiogram, pulmonary function testing, vision screening, lab collections.
Coordinate Chest X-Ray and off-site testing for occupational health exams.
Work with Facility HR, HESS, and the community medical providers in conjunction with the site contract medical providers to receive short term disability information and provide effective return to work within company programs.
Provide initial evaluation and referral for workers' compensation. Coordinate return to work for Workers Compensation.
Collect drug test specimen and perform breath alcohol screening tests in accordance with the OxyChem's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
Assist in promoting Corporate Wellness Plan, health, wellness, productivity, and safety in the work environment
Maintain medical records and patient confidentiality.
Actively participate in transition from paper records to electronic systems.
Take ownership and leadership of empowered site based occupational health program
Enhance your personal professional education and maintain necessary certifications and license.
Respond to infrequent call outs for Occupational Medical consultation.
Qualifications
Active, unrestricted RN license in Texas or Compact State
Five years of clinical nursing experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team
Ability to read, write and speak English
Current certification in Basic Life Support from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
High proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Adaptable to change to multiple electronic systems.
Transport Workers Identification Card (TWIC) Required
Available to respond to callouts on a non-routine basis
Physical requirements:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds, climb ladders/stairs, walking, bending, stooping.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS in nursing
Occupational health experience
Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
Knowledge of workplace health, safety concepts and OSHA regulations.
Knowledge of medical case management
Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certified
Certification in
Basic Life Support/AED for medical professionals (BLS)
Spirometry
DOT specimen collection
Non-DOT Drug Test Collection
