Purpose

Performs nursing assessment, including evaluation of work injury and urgent care issues, for McCormick employees and occasionally, contractors. Evaluates symptoms, delivers treatment and documents visits appropriately using OHM. Functions within Nurse Practice Act, McCormick and Co. Inc. policies and procedures and the specific standards of care of the Health & Wellness Department. This individual also provides other activities requiring advanced skill and experience. These activities include, but are not limited to: House Calls, Employee Assistance counseling, travel consultation, needs identification, wellness activities, program development, chronic disease management, patient and staff education and leadership/supervisory and mentoring activities for other staff in absence of Manager. Periodically in contact with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.

This position, in addition to regular nursing duties, provides advanced level assessment, development and analysis of complex issues that impact both the employee and department. This can be related to patient care or program development, for the purpose of improving services to McCormick and Co. Inc. employees. In addition, this role would provide leadership support and mentoring to other Health & Wellness staff to promote a professional, experienced occupational health team. Individual must be able to collect data, analyze data and formulate a plan and or solution. This is for patient problems, as well as, situational problems. Maybe asked to analyze a situation, formulate a plan and execute that plan for the purpose of improving Medical services. The individual acts as a consultant to HR. This job affects the business during audits or other contact with customers. No decision making or strategy impact. This job impacts the pre-placement evaluation of all McCormick and Co. Inc. employees and some out of state employees. It impacts the state of the employee's health and well-being. Employees come to Health & Wellness with physical, mental, and emotional issues for the purpose of evaluation, possible treatment, education and referral. Health & Wellness would manage absences, disability and FMLA. In addition, the department would provide urgent care, medical surveillance testing, health & wellness programs, workers' compensation management and treatment, and drug and alcohol testing. The position would work directly with HR and other departments in managing the health and wellness needs of their employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing assessment and care in a high quality, compassionate manner.

  • Administers medication according to standards of care and provider's orders. Calls in prescriptions.

  • Documents activities in a clear and concise manner.

  • Works with manager in the day to day operational management of the department. Functions as Charge Nurse during daily operation of the Center.

  • Work with local safety teams regarding Medical Surveillance. Complete audiograms/spirometry for employees based on OSHA requirements. Medical surveillance site visits require "local" travel within 30 miles of Headquarters.

  • Provides advanced level program and budget development, analysis and execution.

  • Counsels and refers mental health, substance abuse and other relevant issues to the appropriate provider.

  • Complete pre-employment testing/physicals based on requests from local sites. This can include drug and alcohol testing, obtaining vital signs, completion of audiograms, spirometry, and vision testing. Review testing results for out of state candidates across the United States and communicate with preboarding/providers based on those results/review.

  • Coordinate with local sites to arrange, plan, and execute onsite/local vaccine clinics. Vaccine clinics do require "local" travel within 30 miles of Headquarters.

  • Works as a member of the Health & Wellness team providing leadership, education, and mentoring for other staff.

  • Allergy injections, venipuncture, and specimen collection based on orders from onsite and offsite providers.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing

  • Certification and/or Licenses

  • RN, CPR for healthcare workers, First Aid Responder

  • Min 2 years of Occupational Health Nursing required. Min 3 years of Nursing required with experience in acute care, ED or urgent care.

  • This individual must be familiar with dealing with patients who are normally self-sufficient. Good interpersonal skills are a must.

  • Must have current, unencumbered nursing license in Maryland or compact state

  • Occupational health experience

  • CAOHC and NIOSH certification beneficial

  • Customer service friendly individuals will be highly considered. Good clinical knowledge base is a must. Providing sound medical, healthcare or wellness advice and providing referrals.

  • Computer skills required (experience with OHM helpful)

  • Interpersonal Skills - leadership, interactions, communication, influence

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc - Nursing

  • Certification and/or Licenses

  • COHN, Spirometry Certified, Hearing Conservation Certified.
