Per Diem OB/GYN Hospitalist Opportunity in Atlanta, GA
Per diem opportunity for an experienced OB/GYN hospitalist to join our team at EastSide Medical Center.
1,500 deliveries per year
The OB/GYN hospitalist service sees an average of 6 patients per day (although this is highly variable)
We have a dedicated call room, 24-hour, in-house anesthesia services, physician work-room and lounge areas in the unit, in addition to a physician cafeteria with complimentary meals when the hospital cafeteria is open
The EHR is Meditech and the fetal monitoring system is CPN
General responsibility overview: triage/care for unassigned OB and GYN patients, ER and floor consults, respond to emergencies on L&D/postpartum, surgical assistance at C/S's, call coverage for private physicians.
OB/GYN Hospitalist responsibilities (detailed):
Triage through-put optimized at <120min whenever="" possible="" with="" physician="" contact="" asap="" (goal="" is="" within="" 60min="" max="" and="" to="" minimize="" door-to-doctor="">120min>
Oversight on L&D with emergency interventions and notification of attending for private patients. Board rounds with the charge nurse twice daily and regular updates for new admissions or complications.
Triage and admission as needed of unassigned ("no-doc") OB or GYN patients.
Emergency surgical therapy prn with emphasis on laparoscopic treatment for ectopics where possible.
ER and floor consults for unassigned OB or GYN patients.
Coverage (OB and GYN triage, admission, rounding as needed) and C/S surgical assists for private physicians when requested if possible. GYN surgical assists must be subject to clinical demands (not usually available).
Minimize call-ins from the back-up private physician list as much as possible by prioritizing may use nurse triage (monitor/check cervix/labs/US/etc & call results) to help improve through-put and minimize back-up usage when urgently clinically occupied elsewhere.
Carrying of a Cisco (VoIP) phone (handed off to oncoming hospitalist each day) so OB/GYN hospitalist is always accessible via a single number.
Complete EHR and/or CPN documentation for all patients seen (whether charges placed or not). Fill out billing work sheet for all patients seen (or use eCCAPS, the electronic charging system for Mednax)
I-PASS handoff report to oncoming physicians including ID info, Hx and Dx, acuity, action items (to-do) and situational awareness (pt concerns/coverage/consults/back-up physician/etc). Include all patients seen who remain hospitalized even if team has signed-off.
Report to private attendings for whom coverage has been provided re their patient encounters during coverage interval.
