The Risk Transfer Specialist position is a tele-commuting field position with Wright Public Entity within the Risk Management Department, specifically assigned to the New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR) program. Wright Public Entity is the managing general underwriter of the NYSIR program which insures public K-12 school districts in New York State. The person in this role will have responsibility for specific risk transfer assignments for the NYSIR program. This position involves periodic overnight travel (<10 days/year).
The primary responsibility for this position is to provide analysis, consultation, and review of Risk Transfer related documents to ensure a proper risk transfer is in effect for the program member. This position interacts with program members; certified representatives; client service employees of insurance carriers; school district attorneys; architects and construction managers. Risk management activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Certificate of Insurance Reviews
Indemnification Agreement Reviews
Insurance Specification Requirements Reviews
Contract Reviews
Writing related articles for Risk Management Bulletins and Association Publications
Subscriber Training and Counseling
Regional Seminar and Webinar Presentations
Job Summary
The risk transfer specialist will be responsible for the review of Certificates of Insurance and other related risk transfer documents for NYSIR Subscribers. This position has a high level of interaction with members; teammates; insurance company representatives; school district attorneys; construction managers; architects and others. This position will occasionally write articles for NYSIR and other Association publications. This position will be field based and the potential candidate will work out of their home office.
Reporting Relationships
The Risk Transfer Specialist reports to the Vice President of Risk Management.

The Risk Transfer Specialist will:
Assess Certificates of Insurance and associated documents to ensure they provide a valid risk transfer to member districts and BOCES.
Assess contracts and indemnification agreements to ensure favorable language is present for members and the language is not too broad.
Contact insurance companies, brokers and agents to correct deficient Certificates of Insurance, endorsements or other documents.
Review insurance specification for various exposures and provide members with specifications which meet the exposures.
Maintain open communications with members; insurance professionals; school attorneys; teammates and others.
Be able to work independently.
Support marketing efforts for prospective business by presenting or coordinating the information on available risk control services.
Develop training programs and presentations for members on risk transfer related topics.
Perform other activities, duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education: AA/BS/BA degree in a related field is preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: NYS Broker License is required.
Experience: Qualified candidates will have at least 5 years of commercial insurance experience in client services or insurance sales. Alternatively qualified candidates will have 5 years of experience reviewing legal documents, contracts and other related documents in a legal type setting.
Knowledge: Understanding of Insurance Company Operations and Risk Transfer Programs.
Skills/Competencies: Strong organizational and analytical skills with an attention to detail. Strong relationship, marketing and consulting skills required to interact with member employees; certified representatives; insurance company personnel; school district attorneys and Wright Public Entity teammates. Solid written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate a personal computer and other business equipment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines are all essential elements of the job.
