  • Responsible for NVH Vehicle Development for Power-train NVH, Ride and Shake, Wind Noise and Operational Sound Quality

  • Plan, monitor and participate in required NVH testing, analyze and present results: vehicle testing on a track or chassis dynamometer, subjective analysis of noise/vibration quality, objective data analysis of noise/vibration, frequency analysis, order analysis/order tracking, modal analysis, and transfer path analysis.


  • BSME or 4-year degree in relevant Engineering field required.

  • This is a NVH Vehicle Development Engineer position, NOT CAE.

  • Will require driving, testing and analysis of NVH data with presentation to Management.

  • Full NVH Vehicle ownership from Concept to Launch.

  • This includes, Chassis, Wind noise, Power-train noise, Acoustic sound package, Exhaust, and Drive-line tuning.

  • Must be able to drive high horsepower RWD and 4WD manual transmission vehicles.

  • This includes driving at our client's Proving Grounds and Racetracks.

  • Must be capable of performing duties with limited supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Must be willing and able to work extra hours as necessary to complete assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD preferred.

  • Experience with LMS Test-Lab, Artemis.

  • Hands on car / cycle racing full vehicle building or Formula SAE / Baja experience a plus.


  • Some travel both within the US and International can be expected.

  • Will be required to drive a company car.

  • Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record.

  • Will be required to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%

Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities * Working in and leading NVH projects, including provision of NVH expertise to external customers. * Plan, organize and execute all aspects of NVH investigations. * Contribute to local and global NVH programs and projects. * Evaluation and documentation of NVH vehicle tests including analysis of data. * NVH vehicle performance appraisal, presentations, demonstrations and visits to customers. * Provide feedback to application engineering teams on NVH vehicle performance and participation in NVH problem solving on application programs. * Maintain NVH instrumentation devices and workshop facilities. * Ensure that NVH measurement equipment is calibrated to international standards and fit for purpose. Product Safety * Adhere to the GKN Product Safety Policy and Product Safety Procedure. * Immediately report PPSI (Potential Product Safety and Integrity) concerns to the Quality Manager in production or the Chief Engineer in development. Formal Qualifications Essential Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study. Masters or higher preferred Desirable * DOE experience. * Fatigue and strain gauge experience * Familiar with a variety of NVH acquisition hardware and software. Specific Functional Capabilities, Knowledge and Skills Required Essential * 10+ years in the vehicle NVH field• Expertise in the use of LMS Test.lab • Able to understand and apply statistical methods. • Able to generate reports on data recorded and analyzed, including conclusions and recommendations. • Capability in driving and subjective evaluation of NVH vehicle performance. • Proficient in experimental modal analysis of components and vehicles including: • Proper test methods • Signal processing • Structural dynamic modifications • Substructuring • Model verification • Model comparison and updating In depth knowledge of signal processing including: • Time series analysis • Fourier analysis • Signature analysis In depth understanding of acoustical test methods and theory including sound power, acoustic intensity, beamforming, acoustic holography and acoustic metrics. • Experience with both structural and acoustic FEA. • Proficient with Matlab. • Experienced with tuned absorber theory and test methods for both translational and torsional tuned absorbers.
