With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Inpatient Services "Nutritional Services", 7901 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203

As the Nutritionist IV, under limited supervision, you will plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition services for a designated area. Assess the nutritional status of individuals of the designated population. Serve as a liaison for Food and Nutrition Services and as a member of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • You will assess the nutritional status of individuals by obtaining and/or evaluating anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, clinical, dietary, economic and social data and provide all appropriate related documentation.

  • Participates in the development, implementation and interpretation of nutrition policies, procedures and standards of care within areas of responsibility.

  • Serves as contact person for specialized nutrition services within a designated area.

  • Conducts quality assurance reviews, evaluates outcomes and recommends or implements cooperative action when necessary.

  • Provides consultation and assistance to medical and other professional personnel on the diagnosis and treatment of nutrition disorders.

  • Provides in-service training for staff within a specialized program or units of state agencies.

  • Maintains appropriate credentials for practices, to include developing and maintaining age-specific competencies.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor's degree in any field and registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting. Must have a South Carolina Dietitian license.

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in public health nutrition, community nutrition, dietetics or nutrition with three (3) years' experience in a related field; or a bachelor's degree in nutrition dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical public health or institutional setting or four (4) years' experience in a related field.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments

The selected candidate is considered an essential employee during an emergency. Must maintain an effective working relationship with healthcare providers, patients and families. You will coordinate, supervise and evaluate a complex nutrition services for specialized population groups.
