WIC Nutritionist Assistant provides direct patient care; interviews clients by securing and verifying personal, financial and demographic information to determine eligibility for the WIC program. Registers clients, answers program questions, explains policy and procedures, enters pertinent information into computer database, schedules appointments, makes referrals, takes anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements, provides nutrition education to individuals or groups and provides nutrition counseling for low risk clients; issues benefits for WIC eligible clients according to nutritional requirements.
High school diploma or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Knowledge of basic office procedures, proficiency in MS Office Suite, G-mail, Word & Excel.
Excellent customer service skills, good oral and written communication skills. Basic knowledge of nutrition and office procedures. Computer keyboarding skills and familiarization with a variety of software.
Must have a valid driver's license. Must provide own transportation. Must be able to work adjusted schedules as needed including evening clinics, some weekends and some work in other locations in Wise, Scott and Lee counties.
Experience in healthcare setting or related field. Ability to receive a high volume of inbound phone calls in a fast paced work environment.
Experience providing nutrition assessment and education to groups or individuals, taking anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements in infants, young children and adults and working in the WIC program is preferred. Prefer applicant with basic knowledge of nutritional benchmarks. Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field preferred.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service's Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check and E-Verify.
Required to pass WIC training module exam and state WIC office proficiency review. VDH will record information from each new employee's I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.
