The Nutritional Specialist will be responsible for determining the nutritional labeling and nutritional claims of all products through review of laboratory analyses of the products. The Nutritional Labeling Specialist is responsible for ongoing monitoring of all submitted laboratory results for manufactured and co-manufactured products and all programs involving nutritional values of our products.
False or incorrect values or claims on product labels, point of purchase materials, advertising and other sources of information to consumers can lead to regulatory and/or legal actions that can include product recalls and significant financial loss to the Company.
The Nutritional Labeling Specialist is responsible for monitoring all analytical results, agency databases, and supplier information to maintain legal nutritional information.
Verify nutritional values for new and existing products, confirm values for newly regulated nutrients, oversee the implementation of corrected values.
Verify ingredient statements provided by co-packers against certificates of analysis (COAs) for accuracy, and against regulations for compliant listings.
Coordinate information and issue final ingredients, nutrition and claims to R&D and Marketing Managers for label development.
Maintain the Child Nutrition (CN) program for Distributors and schools, and provide technical assistance to customers as needed.
Liaison with the USDA Child Nutrition Services Agency to continue the development of the CN program.
Provide correct calorie and nutritional information for products to retail customers as required under Federal and State laws.
Ensure compliance with USDA and FDA regulations for all nutrition related label elements and claims, website information and point of sale (POS) materials.
Provide technical expertise to the Company Legal Department as requested to support product labeling, advertising, and marketing programs.
Conduct reviews of all product health claims against USDA and FDA regulations and databases to protect the Company from legal actions.
Verify nutritional claims on products (Lower Sodium, Gluten Free, Trans Fat claims, American Heart Association claims, National Celiac Society, etc.) including review of verification testing results of products as needed. This includes accuracy of training materials and P.O.S. (point of sales) materials.
Maintain and update the ingredient and allergen databases including Customer Service, and ingredient receiving links.
Coordinate and verify results of allergen audit annually, maintain files.
Maintain updated and accurate information in all databases and act as a super user for EtQ/Reliance to support Quality Assurance, SQF Practitioners, Marketing, R&D and the Plants.
Bachelor's degree with 3 years plus experience in USDA and FDA labeling regulations, plus extensive knowledge of meat and cheese processing.
Education and/or experience in nutritional analysis and labeling.
Must be able to understand chemical analysis reports and COAs (Certificates of Analysis) and create summary reports (statistical analysis, trends, etc.)
Strong computer skills (MS Office Word, Excel) and database development and management including Filemaker.
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information in clear concise formats, and to effectively communicate with all levels of management, including sales, customer service, distribution and manufacturing.
