Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Nutrition/Food Services, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks in the kitchen and cafeteria(s) including: preparing and serving food items, cooking food items on a grill, attending to customers, performing general sanitation duties, stocking dishes and utensils, bussing tables, operating cash register, processing credit card transactions (single card transactions only), handling cash transactions and reconciling deposit. Washes dishes, pots, pans, and utensils following proper procedure using safe and sanitary methods. Delivers and pick up food carts and patient trays from nursing floors. Empties garbage, cleans dish machine and completes all assigned cleaning.

Core Duties:

  • Follow cafeteria price list

  • Ring all sales, cash or charge, into the register

  • Verify cardholder identity with a photo ID

  • Store merchant credit card receipt copies in register drawer until end of shift

  • Complete daily cash reports

  • Make cash deposits

  • Follow portion control guidelines

  • Prepare grill items

  • Complete daily sanitation duties

  • Replenish & maintain adequate food and supply items throughout service period

  • Greets customers in a friendly helpful manner

  • Prepares customer orders as requested

  • Prepares and packages sandwiches and salads

  • Follows cash handling procedures and cash register policies

  • Inventories and prepares order

  • Operates dish machine in accordance with operating manual

  • Work patient trayline

  • Complete regulatory documentation as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with food preparation, proper food handling procedures, customer service, sanitation techniques and cash and credit card handling

  • A criminal background check is required

  • Knowledge of:

  • Basic math skill

  • Proper food handling techniques

  • Proper operation of food service and dishwashing equipment

  • Commercial dish machine operating procedures

  • Proper food service sanitation techniques

  • Proper techniques of storing, preparing, holding, and service of perishable meats, dairy products, fresh produce, and frozen foods

  • Ability to:

  • Read and write English

  • Understand and follow written and oral directions

  • Work with a variety of personalities

  • Work with minimal supervision

  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with kitchen and cafeteria employees and hospital staff

  • Observe safety regulations for handling food and food service equipment

  • Meet schedule requirements and time deadlines

  • Maintain equipment

  • Be adaptable and willing to perform a variety of tasks as assigned
