SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nutrition Service Worker I perform a variety of duties related to the food preparation, tray assembly and cart transfer for patients. Nutrition Service Worker I exhibits a courteous and respectful attitude towards others by approaching each individual with an attitude of hospitality and service along with continuously expressing the core values and philosophy of the hospital in daily activities.
High school diploma/ GED required.
Previous customer service experience required.
Previous food service experience preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Follows detailed written and oral instructions. Requires basic reading, writing, or simple arithmetic skills and communication skills.
Completes specific work as routine with clearly defined tasks.
PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES (Essential Functions):
To initiate prompt, efficient tray assembly and service the NSW turns on all equipment necessary for meal service. Prepares and delivers coffee for surgery, doctor's dining room and lobby.
Returns and replenishes as necessary. Accurately and timely set-ups, delivers and picks up special functions. Prepares special cold items needed for tray service, milkshake, supplements, etc.
Assemble day cereal cart, juice and milk and replenishes after usage. Works various positions on tray line for meal service. Transfers carts to tray line for all meals and assures cleanliness.
Transports food carts to appropriate nursing floor. Prepares and delivers all am nourishments. Prepares and delivers late trays to appropriate nursing floors in a timely manner.
Collects food carts from nursing floors after meal service and returns them to the dish room. Makes second rounds to all nursing floors after meals to pickup late trays. . Prepares dish machine by filling with water, replenishing chemicals as needed. Complete temperature log sheet for dish machine.
Fills soaking bins with hot water and detergent. Fills pots and pan sink compartment with appropriate solution and organizes work area. Washes, sanitizes and ensure pots and pans are clean and dry throughout the day.
Removes clean dishes and utensils, etc. from dish machine to stock areas. Promptly reports any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. Cleans equipment and work area(s) in a sanitary manner during daily activities and completes special cleaning tasks as assigned.
Keeps cafeteria replenished with clan dishes and silverware throughout the day. Adheres to scheduled hours and break times. Also available to work extra hours as needed.
Is flexible and willing to adjust schedule to accommodate department. Disassembles patient food carts, cafeteria food carts, and places dirty dishes and utensils on dish machine according to proper procedures. Places designated tray covers on clean dry trays after each meal service.
Ensures enough clean silverware is bagged for each meal service. Sets up menus for each patient meal service. Prepares coffee for each patient meal service, pours into mugs.
Replenishes coffee urn station after each meal. Displays adaptability and flexibility in handling unexpected changes in work volume and/or meeting emergency situations.
Attends/participates in hospital, departmental and unit meetings, and in activities as needed. Communicates effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and hospital and non-hospital personnel.
Adheres to standard policies and procedures within the hospital and department. Trains new employees as requested by supervisors.
