Characteristics of Work Benefits Supplemental Questions

Incumbents in this class perform work to assist with disease prevention and maintenance of good health through federal, state, county, and local government nutrition progress. Duties include individual and group counseling and the preparation of nutrition education tools. Supervision is exercised over lower-level clerical personnel and received from Nutritionists and other food preparation and service staff members in higher-level occupational classes.

Examples of Work:Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performs individual, family and group teaching in normal and therapeutic nutrition to help prevent disease and maintain good nutritional health.

Assists in locating and/or preparing nutrition education tools.

Promotes interest in nutrition and in health to assigned community groups.

Assists in the development and evaluation of specific educational procedures within the coordinated nutrition plan.

Participates in and assists in planning in-service training of staff at county and project levels.

Prepares reports, plans, and records as directed.

Evaluates potential clients in order to determine if criteria are met for program participation.

Identifies nutritional risks of each participant in order to adapt counseling to those needs.

Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
These minimum qualifications have been agreed upon by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in this job class and are based upon a job analysis and the essential functions. However, if a candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Any request to substitute related education or experience for minimum qualifications must be addressed to the Mississippi State Personnel Board in writing, identifying the related education and experience which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform all essential functions of the position.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Community or Institutional Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or Home Economics Education.

OR

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with completion of the educational curriculum approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Documentation Required:

Applicant shall provide a valid copy of his/her transcript and/or evidence of required coursework.

Essential Functions:Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring agency. The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.Provides nutritional assessments, counseling, and education to patients/clients in accordance with established criteria and standards.
2.Maintains and updates professional knowledge of nutrition and public health as well as increases public awareness of proper nutrition and nutrition programs.
3.Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district nutrition education plan.
4.Maintains records and reports.
5.Implements agency programs.

Our mission is "the care of the patient is our reason for existence." What's yours? The Dialysis Educator (RN) provides initial and ongoing training and education for facility staff. Responsibilities * Provide classroom training for patient care staff who do not have previous dialysis experience. * Verify new staff competencies before they are independently assigned new tasks. * Oversee preceptor program and report progress. * Provide training to all staff for any new policy and procedures used in the clinic. * After a state or federal survey, provide training for any deficiencies identified during the survey. * Ensure new hires complete education module training within 30 days of hire. * Ensure annual compliance for education modules assigned to staff are completed on time. * Provide annual competency testing of all patient care staff, and if needed, provide additional training to any staff who does not meet the requirements. * Annually, perform audits for all assigned clinics for medical records, infection control, and a regulatory audit and develop a corrective plan for any deficiencies. * Ensure any non-certified PCTs test for certification within 12 months of hire. Qualifications * Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN, AA, diploma). * One year dialysis experience required. * Current state Registered Nurse license. * Current CPR/AED certification.
