Job Summary

Provides all aspects of the daily meal service to include: menu selection, nourishment and tube feeding delivery, and tray delivery and pick up using excellent customer service skills.

Essential Job Functions

  • Customer service

  • Performs excellent customer service skills when entering a nursing unit and patient room; follows PPE and patient safety guidelines as indicated

  • Handles service recovery immediately or involves supervisor as needed

  • Receives and distributes all messages in a timely manner

  • Identifies and refers patients requiring further nutrition intervention to the dietitian

  • VISION menu selection responsibilities

  • Enters patient rooms and identifies patients using established patient identifiers

  • Introduces self and menu process

  • Effectively introduces the menu selections via the spoken menu procedure

  • Successfully navigates patient meal profiles

  • Suggests alternative selections as appropriate

  • Adheres to diet order guidelines, fluid restrictions, and preferences; can effectively help patients with any diet questions or can alert dietitians for guidance

  • Encourages participation from family members when appropriate

  • Calls patients in isolation rooms for menu selections

  • Can utilize downtime procedures in emergency situations

  • Delivers and collects trays to patients in a timely and courteous manner adhering to department guidelines to ensure that the patient receives the correct tray

  • Enters patient room following established guidelines

  • Offers assistance with tray set-up as per guidelines

  • Confirms that patient is satisfied with tray and has everything selected

  • Prepares and delivers nourishments and tube feedings

  • Checks dates on products and stored items, notifies supervisor of expired items

  • Prepares and labels tube feedings and nourishments as per guidelines

  • Delivers tube feedings and nourishments per time needed

  • Safety and sanitation regulations

  • Practices good hygiene which includes hand washing, appropriate hair restraints, and personal hygiene

  • Use gloves as required

  • Keeps work area and equipment neat and clean

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Three (3) months of experience in food service field.

  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.

  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

  • Basic Math and Keyboard Proficiency

  • Functional Skills on PC and Related Software (Microsoft Office)

  • Knowledge of basic Office Equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Service Safe Certification

License, Certification & Clearances

  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).

  • Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health System locations.
