Purpose/Description:

The College of St. Scholastica seeks qualified adjunct faculty candidates to support nursing students throughout their programs of study.

The Nursing Student Success Coach/Interventionist is a skilled adjunct faculty who specializes in interventions within the educational setting. This adjunct faculty will work with students who have been referred for their services by course faculty or through self-referral by individual students, if appropriate, based on services offered. Faculty will refer students who have been identified as "at risk" due to academic and/or professional challenges which may impact their ability to successfully complete their program - with the goal of increased student retention and progression at CSS.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Academic and Practical Guidance:

  • Provide personalized coaching and support to nursing students, assisting them in navigating the challenges of the nursing program.

  • Provide guidance on developing professional skills, time management, NCLEX/test taking strategies, study skills, and effective communication in healthcare settings.

  • Develop and implement interventions to support students who may be facing academic challenges, ensuring a proactive approach to addressing challenges and improving retention in the nursing program.

  • Resource Navigation:

  • Help students access and utilize resources such as tutoring and academic support services, as well as the Center for Equal Access if appropriate.

  • Connect students with counseling services and support networks as needed.

  • Professional Development:

  • Stay current with trends and advancements in nursing education, student support and retention strategies, and continuously seek ways to improve and innovate instructional practices.

  • Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with full-time faculty members, administrators, and student support experts to identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations regarding targeted interventions.

  • Mentorship and Advocacy:

  • Foster a mentor relationship with nursing students, offering guidance on both academic and professional matters.

  • Advocate for students' needs and concerns within the academic program and institution.

  • Provide mentorship to fellow faculty members, sharing expertise and knowledge related to successful interventions in nursing education and student support best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral Nursing program if BSN

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with educational technologies.

  • Ability to complete orientation and training within the first month of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in nursing strongly preferred (Master's or Doctoral level).

  • Previous experience in nursing education, academic advising, or mentorship roles.

  • Previous experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) as students.
