Monmouth University is seeking applications for a full-time administration Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Director with primary responsibilities within the BSN program.

The Skills and Simulation Lab provides an opportunity for students primarily in the BSN program to learn and reinforce clinical skills, critical thinking, and reinforcement of concepts covered in the nursing programs. The Nursing Skills and Simulation Director will lead, plan, supervise, and implement the necessary components of the Skills and Simulation Lab facility.

The Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Director is responsible for the daily operation of the Skills and Simulation Lab primarily within the BSN program. The Director will oversee the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all skills lab and simulation equipment/supplies and collaborates with faculty and students to design, plan, implement, and schedule skills and simulation activities. The Director will ensure adherence to skills and simulation program policies, best practices and safety measures to attain course learning objectives and , course outcomes as well as program outcomes for the various nursing programs.

This is a 12-month, full-time position. Evening or weekend hours may be required.

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Current non-encumbered license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey.

  • 3 years current experience either in Direct Patient Care or Nursing Skills/Simulation Lab with knowledge of nursing skills and simulation.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with faculty and students.

  • Experience with technology and/or computer hardware or software, including PC and/or Mac platforms, MS Office, and the ability to learn new technology and software programs quickly

  • Flexibility to work evening or weekend hours, as required.

  • Knowledge in handling and disposal of hazardous wastes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ATI resources.

  • Designated as an ATI Champion

  • Nursing Education courses specifically in curriculum development and assessment a plus.

  • Qualifications in Nursing Education, either MSN, DNP, EdD preferred

  • Member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certification and/or

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

Duty

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized nursing skills and simulation laboratory environment including maintaining lab and simulation equipment, ensuring equipment is properly handled ordering lab and simulation supplies, and making recommendations for new equipment and supplies.

Regular or Occasional Regular Duty

Orient new staff to the skills and simulation lab and maintain accurate records of contact information and credentials; ensure proper staffing of skills and simulation events by scheduling additional support services.

Regular or Occasional Regular Duty

Schedule and keep accurate records of lab adjuncts and student participation and events of skills and simulation lab usage including attendance using the scheduling system and providing monthly reports to the program director; advise of changes in the schedule as soon as possible.

Act as a role model for students and staff by reinforcing professionalism including dress code, treating confidential and sensitive information appropriately, and supervising student workers, graduate assistants, and open lab staff while demonstrating the ability to work with diverse groups.

Encourage student participation in open lab events by advertising and scheduling events conducive to student scheduling. and communicate with faculty regarding student issues that occur.

Collaborate with faculty to attain course learning outcomes and objectives and develop, and revise skills, simulation content, and activities. Anticipate and set up individual and group review, practice, and testing sessions, and assist with proctoring assessments to support student learning including working with faculty to develop and execute remediation plans while providing feedback to faculty.

Apply knowledge, skills, and attitude (KSAs) and educational concepts in curriculum, assessment, and instructional materials, that align teaching strategies in the skills and simulation lab that reinforce and influence lesson/course objectives and program outcomes based on current nursing practice in undergraduate and graduate programs.

Ability to develop, organize, prepare, maintain, and execute nursing skills and simulation laboratory activities conducive to the learning environment based on current standards and evidence-based practice using a variety of creative teaching strategies and delivery methods to engage students in active learning and effectively work with adjunct lab faculty to execute skills and simulation activities seamlessly.

Develop simulation scenarios using various levels of fidelity mannequins. Stay current with clinical skills and simulation to align with the curriculum and program outcomes based on evidence-based practice.
