Nursing Simulation Coordinator (10 Month Position)

Provides effective coordinator of the simulation program and management of the nursing laboratories. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for the simulation program and maintains the facilities, capital, and consumable equipment. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide simulation training to both internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff and students.

Key Measurable Expectations

Coordination and Programmatic Training

• Participates in weekly simulation huddles with faculty to plan for activities needed for the simulations for the week, such as but not limited to:

• Review simulations scheduled for the week: course, objectives for the SIM, type of SIM

• Activities required the day before the scheduled simulation

• Activities required the morning of simulation, prior to the start of simulation

• Activities required during the scheduled simulation

• Activities required post simulation

• Assists nursing faculty with teaching clinical simulations and clinical experiences.

• Support student learning activities in the simulation setting.

• Consult with faculty and staff on suitability of simulation and ensure accuracy of scenario, including supporting props, moulage, and documents to best achieve learning outcomes.

• Assist with student orientation to simulation rooms and manikin.

• Provide setup, takedown, and moulage of requested simulations.

• Responsible for setting up debriefing room including viewing television, whiteboard, any documentation, and pre and post brief materials.

• When assisting with simulation scenarios, prepare technology for use, perform set up of scenario, moulage of manikin, changeover to next scenario, take down at the end of the simulation day, and replenish supplies and inventory.

• Program scenarios as needed, test scenarios, and operate technology for faculty simulation facilitators, assuring that the facility, equipment, manikins or standardized patients, and supplies are set up appropriately and that desired outcomes will be achieved.

• Practice and assess return demonstrations of lab skills with nursing students.

Technical Maintenance and Support

• Along with IT and vendor IT support (A/V system and high-fidelity simulators), provide specialized technical support and maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of server infrastructure, digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, computers, and medical equipment.

• Provide training and support to faculty and other staff in the technical aspects of simulation.

• Plan and coordinate with staff and faculty for the scheduling of simulator maintenance.

• Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, assuring that all equipment is maintained in good working order at all times.

• Audit, test, and ensure all equipment and systems run efficiently according to current specification requirements, keeping apprised of periodic product information releases.

Administrative and Clerical

• Ensure that all emerging technologies affecting simulation and data capture are used in the classroom and participate in technical training and continuing education as needed.

• Evaluate student skill performance and reports findings to nursing faculty.

• Assists in the development of supplemental instruction material in cooperation with nursing faculty and the Director of Nursing.

• Proctor standardized exit exams, and other exams as needed.

• Assist in the identification, assessment, organization and implementation of instructional software and assessment materials in the nursing program.

• Assist the Director of Nursing with nursing program accreditation reports and reaccreditation processes.

• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates

• Provide recommendations for purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials.

• Maintain record of repairs.

• Serve as main point of contact for simulation manikins, electronics and systems, and inventory.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• Current Illinois licensure and a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

• Minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience.

• One year of Simulation experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing

• Certified in either Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)
