Introduction:
A nursing simulation/lab coordinator and remediation specialist is an experienced registered nurse (RN) who performs duties and responsibilities for students in collaboration with office staff, nursing administration and faculty as outlined in the section below. This role is vital in implementing simulation scenarios across the entire scope of nursing practice up to the level of registered nurse, in providing remediation to students who need additional support, and in providing open resource lab hours for students to practice their skills. This role is also instrumental in maintaining the laboratory and simulation spaces, equipment and supplies. The nursing department does collaborate with the Emergency Medical Services and Health Sciences department at times.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provides resource lab assistance, simulation for courses, and remediation help weekly for students. Prepares classroom, supplies and equipment for students in resource lab, simulation and remediation sessions. These resource lab, simulation, and remediation sessions will be held at Kapi'olani Community College, Leeward Community College, Leahi, Mamane, or other sites as requested.
Maintains a resource lab calendar on google sheets, accessible to all nursing staff, faculty and students at Kapi'olani Community College, Leeward Community College, Leahi, Mamane, or other sites as requested. Communicates with students prior to lab regarding their upcoming appointments and skills requested for review and assistance.
Operates and maintains equipment within all labs and SIM facilities at Kapi'olani Community College, Leeward Community College, Leahi, Mamane, or other sites as requested.
Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies for all SIM sites and all nursing laboratory needs, in collaboration with office support staff, course coordinators and program directors.
Communicates with the office staff in charge of ordering supplies and course coordinators to order new supplies when needed.
Controls manikin functions, provides verbal responses in scenarios, and other active participation as required to support simulated experiences with students.
Cleans and maintains equipment and supplies before and after resource lab, simulation and remediation sessions.
Troubleshoots equipment problems and notifies appropriate resources/vendors for resolution. Maintains warranty records of equipment and ensures regular scheduling of vendor's equipment preventative maintenance services.
Programs scenarios into simulator software and develops scenario directories for all nursing courses.
Oversees integration of new SIM hardware and software and updates simulation and equipment software regularly.
Provides SIM training to faculty and staff as requested, including debriefing.
Keeps current on nursing credentials, requirements and simulation professional development.
May attend simulation conferences as time and budget permits.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in nursing and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities in working in any type of simulation laboratory setting, or operations support to different laboratories or general experience in Nursing or health care related areas; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Possession of current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of nursing as demonstrated by the broad range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with nursing practice.
Demonstrated ability to acquire new skills and learn new techniques to operate and troubleshoot technology and equipment in a health care training setting.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
Desirable Qualifications
Master's degree in nursing
Experience with nursing skills lab and simulation learning, certification with a simulation organization
Experience working with faculty and students in an academic setting
Familiarity with technology resources utilized in healthcare learning settings
Experience in providing logistical support to lab/SIM classrooms, faculty and students
Familiarity with lab/SIM equipment and technology used at KCC and all other sites/classrooms
