The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator for the Skills Lab and Simulation Lab is a 12-month OPAP Level IV position that will plan, operate, coordinate, and oversee the nursing skills lab and simulation related to the Associate Degree Nursing program. The coordinator will work collaboratively with the Nursing Department Chairperson and Nursing faculty and other health program faculty to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation lab and skills lab facilities.

The Coordinator will also assist the Nursing Department Chairperson or Clinical Coordinator with student clinical compliance.

Reports to:

Department Chair of Nursing and/or lead faculty of Nursing Laboratories

Responsibilities:

Maintains primary responsibility for the daily operation of the Nursing Simulation Center.

  • Manage the area to greet students and faculty and direct them accordingly. Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls requiring the use of judgment and the interpretation of policies & procedures.

  • Monitors daily operation and keeps accurate records of use of the of Simulation lab and provides updates to Department Chair as needed.

  • Schedules and coordinates training sessions, clinical lab sessions, and individual requests from faculty, staff and students.

  • Assists faculty with set up/ break down and running of simulations.

  • Fosters positive work environment within department as well as throughout college.

  • Provides instruction for cross training of staff within department.

  • Assists with managing and scheduling work study students; delegate's responsibilities to work-study student as appropriate.

  • Supports high level reinforcement of learning experiences for students.

  • Monitors and responds to email, as appropriate, to ensure timely response.

  • Develops policies and procedures of the Simulation Center and assists with revisions as appropriate.

  • Performs a variety of administrative support duties such as coordinating supplies, printing services and office equipment; purchase orders and invoices in collaboration with the Program Assistant.

  • Maintains inventory, and equipment lists necessary for all services provided within the Simulation Center.

  • Attends to a variety of administrative details such as keeping informed of all laboratory activities, transmitting information, developing, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures and monitoring day to day operations of the functional area to which assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Assist and support in simulation and clinical activities in the Simulation Center and Nursing Skills Laboratory.

  • Provides daily on-site guided practice sessions and lab usage instructions for students.

  • Establishes clinical skill lab stations; sets up and removes equipment and supplies to accommodate the needs of over faculty and students.

  • Set up for simulation and clinical skills sessions and ensures all materials needed are available throughout clinical and practice sessions. Assist in simulation & clinical skills activities.

  • Develops instructional materials regarding the set-up and usage of a wide variety of clinical models and manikins.

  • Maintain equipment and supply inventory for the labs. Creates supply orders of hardware, software, and clinical skills equipment and supplies. Reports need for replenishment to lead instructors of Nursing Skills Laboratory.

  • Maintains currency in hospital policies and procedures related to direct patient care.

  • Maintains currency in hospital technology and systems.

  • Participates in faculty development programs and educational updates to enhance job performance as appropriate.

Manages Audio/Visual Services and resources for the college to maximize systems readiness and user satisfaction.

  • Become competent in operation & use of the simulation & clinical lab equipment.

  • Inputs data and maintains software during clinical skills and simulation lab sessions as needed.

  • Manage audiovisual operations (digital video/DVR systems) for capture of simulated scenarios with transfer into PC and Web-friendly achieve format.

  • Assistance in development and maintenance of such archival system.

  • Provide audio/visual technical assistance/Server operations during Simulation lab recordings.

  • Provide students with an acceptable level of support and availability on all workstations and other computer equipment.

  • Provide technical support to Faculty, Staff, and Students with relation all Nursing Labs computer equipment and Laptops. To include trouble-shooting problems, instructing on proper use, and facilitating vendor repairs when necessary.

  • Investigates new instructional technologies and makes specific equipment recommendations to the director with supporting budgetary information.

Provides collaboration with all internal and external constituents of the College.

  • Assists with developing, implementing and evaluating plans for future use of the Nursing Labs as directed.

  • Participates and assists in College events, i.e. orientation, graduation, etc.

  • Serves on College Staff Council and other College committees as appropriate.

  • Represents the College to internal and external constituents.

  • Provides teaching assistance as needed and as appropriate.

Provides assistance with student clinical compliance and placement. Assists the Clinical Coordinator/Department Chair with:

  • Liaison with CastleBranch or other compliance site in organizing and updating information.

  • Assist students with the orientation and use of CastleBranch.

  • Assist with evaluating students' readiness including, but not limited to, physical exam, CPR, criminal background check, and immunizations/titers.

  • Communicate (via e-mail/phone) to students relevant reminders regarding deadline updates.

  • Update and maintain accurate student records/correspondence/evaluations.

  • Update, oversee, and follow up on all compliance standards.

  • Review NYSED, CDC, OSHA and other government agencies routinely to assure compliance.

  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and course instructors to assist in securing ongoing and new clinical sites.

  • Assist with creating and maintaining clinical placement schedules.

  • Serve as a liaison to students for documentation and accesses required for clinical placement.

  • Assist with all documentation required for student and adjunct placement.

  • Participate in new student orientations.

  • Continue maintenance of clinical placement processes within the shared network drive to store information useful to entire department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in nursing or Registered Nurse pursing completion of a Bachelor's degree in nursing.

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in clinical nursing in direct patient care as a registered nurse (will consider one year with other comparable experience). Must be competent in nursing skills, adult teaching/learning skills and use of technology. Experience with Google Suite or Microsoft Office desired.

Licensure:

The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator and Clinical Compliance Liaison shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in New York or be eligible for such.
