The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator has primary responsibility for simulation instruction in the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs on Mexico and Columbia campuses. The individual in this position will ensure the effective and efficient operation of the lab, assess and provide for meeting program and student needs. The individual will oversee the operation of high and medium fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment. Maintenance of clinical and educational competencies in the areas of instruction and simulation technology is a requirement for this position.

The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator acts as a liaison with the administration, faculty and students in providing clinical skills lab services to fulfill the needs of the Health Sciences Division. The position will provide direction and support to faculty and students by coordinating the development and incorporation of simulation into the curriculum.

Duties include but are not limited to teaching select groups of students in predetermined scenarios, monitoring and improving student retention, and managing materials and resources in the simulation center and development of new scenarios. The position will coordinate and manage the simulations with support from the nursing faculty at all participating site locations.

This is a 12-month, salaried, FLSA exempt position covered by the Public School Retirement System of Missouri (PSRS.)

Qualifications

  • B.S.N. required; M.S.N. preferred.

  • Current undisciplined license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri.

  • Two years of medical-surgical experience and one to three years of experience in simulation and skills lab teaching, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position.

Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Laboratory Coordinator shall:

  • Work collaboratively with peer Instructors/Coordinators, the Director and Dean of Health Sciences Programs to ensure program effectiveness;

  • Develop, present, evaluate and refine scenarios utilized for simulation experiences utilizing role playing, props and dialogue to create a realistic learning environment.

  • Develop new simulation scenarios based on identified student or faculty needs and serve as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities.

  • Oversee instruction in the Clinical Learning Laboratory and ensure that it is consistent with the associate degree and practical nursing curriculum.

  • Maintain the lab inventory and work with the Director of Health Sciences to determine equipment needs and order supplies.

  • Schedule use of the lab/equipment.

  • Provide instructional support in the simulation laboratory for virtual associate degree and practical nursing students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting course objectives through simulation.

  • Prepare rooms and simulators for scenario presentation (moulage; supplies; and computers).

  • Provide campus tours and mock simulations that showcase the value of simulated education in nursing.

  • Make recommendations for the annual budget and submit them to the Dean of Health Sciences;

  • Keep current college transcripts with the Dean of Health Sciences and the Personnel Office. These transcripts must show all college work earned, both graduate and undergraduate, along with all degrees granted;

  • Attend departmental and college meetings as assigned and necessary;

  • Serve as directed on faculty and college committees

  • Attend and participate in professional meetings, conferences, workshops, courses, and ongoing development of clinical expertise;

  • Maintain a current undisciplined nursing license and current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification for health care providers;

  • Carry out the policies developed by the Board of Trustees as executed and interpreted by the Administration of Moberly Area Community College;

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences, Director of Health Sciences, or as designated by the President.
