Educational Requirements:

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required; doctoral degree preferred

University teaching experience preferred

On-line teaching experience preferred

Supervision: Work is performed under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Sciences and Education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses for on-campus students and for online students in nursing.

  • Instruct and evaluate student clinical competencies in laboratory and clinical settings.

  • Instrumental in orientation, mentorship and supervision of adjunct nursing faculty.

  • Develop and revise courses based on the input of students, faculty, and communities of interest

  • Accurately document and preserve student records related to admission, progress, withdrawal and achievement of course objectives.

  • Advise assigned students regarding their program progression and retention

  • Refer students to appropriate Oklahoma Christian and community resources.

  • Distribute to students a syllabus that explains the requirements, course and clinical objectives, grading plan, evaluation methods, schedule of learning activities, and faculty office hours at the beginning of each course.

  • Use up-to-date technology and theories of teaching/learning to present content in a variety of formats as required by the School of Nursing. Course content is consistent with the national curriculum standards, student program outcomes, and the NCLEX-RN test plan.

  • Utilize multiple active learning strategies to evaluate student learning and the development of critical thinking.

  • Follow the general policies of Oklahoma Christian University and the nursing education program.

  • Contribute to the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of the curriculum of the School of Nursing.

  • Collaborate with the leaders and peers of the College of Sciences and Education (COSE) and the College of Outreach and Innovation (COI) to continuously improve the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

  • Participate in decisions affecting the program and students by chairing or serving on established committees and within the faculty organization.

  • Evaluate own performance, based on self-awareness and feedback from students and peers.

  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Nursing faculty will meet the criteria established by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Those criteria and qualifications for employment are:

  • Hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.

  • Hold a Master's degree or higher in nursing; or a baccalaureate degree in nursing plus evidence of continued progress toward a master's or higher degree in nursing with completion of a minimum of six semester hours per calendar year.

  • Present evidence of current practice with a minimum of two years full time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as an educator.

  • Submit a Faculty Qualification Record to the School of Nursing prior to the first day of employment.

  • Participate in professional development and clinical practice to improve and maintain expertise in content of assigned courses.

Academic rank for open positions will be negotiable based on education and experience according to University policy, which requires all full-time and part-time faculty must sign the Statement of Commitment to support a Christ-infused curriculum, co-curriculum, lifestyle and community. A doctoral degree or ABD is preferred for all faculty ranks, with advanced ranks available for those who also bring demonstrated teaching excellence, publication, or professional leadership. This full-time position will be a ten-month assignment with additional pay for summer work.
