About the Indiana Veteran's Home

The Indiana Veterans' Home, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is the only long term care facility in Indiana dedicated to serving veterans and their spouses. We provide a beautiful, healthy and home-like environment for veterans and their spouses to live. Residents enjoy a variety of onsite and offsite activities, excellent health care, nutritious homemade meals and a rich history that only a facility such as IVH can provide.

Nursing Attendant 4 (QMA)

The Indiana Veterans' Home is currently seeking a Nursing Attendant 4 (QMA). The Nursing Attendant 4 (QMA) performs a variety of non-professional routine tasks associated with the care, treatment, health and welfare of patients and residents. This includes all aspects of basic nursing care, within the scope of the Certified Nurse Aide training rules; and administers medications and treatments (within the scope of the QMA rules) with moderate supervision. Reports to the unit manager, but also takes directives from the charge nurse (either RN or LPN) on the unit. MUST HAVE QMA CERTIFICATE TO APPLY.

A Day in the Life

  • Basic knowledge of nursing care, hospital routine and basic nursing practices;

  • Trains and assists patients with daily living tasks; helps patients dress, eat, bathe, brush teeth and comb hair;

  • Escorts patients to and from dining room, other areas of the hospital for treatment and tests, medical facilities outside hospital and/or on fields trips;

  • Obtains drugs from pharmacy;

  • Administers and charts medicine under the direction of a nurse;

  • Checks and records patients' vital signs;

  • Operates medical equipment: thermometer, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, oxygen, suction, etc.;

  • Performs basic first-aid in case of patient injury such as applying antiseptic, bandages, etc.;

  • All other duties as assigned

What IVH is looking for

  • Two (2) years of work experience or high school diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of the Qualified Medications Aide (QMA) course as approved by the Indiana State Department of Health.
