Under the direction of the professional nurse, the Nursing Assistant performs patient care functions and related activities as directed. He/she is responsible to the team leader and/or charge nurse. Acts as a team member in providing simple, routine and specified patient care for which he/she has been trained.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Provides patient care under the general supervision and at the direction of a licensed practical or registered nurse.
Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.
Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.
Assists patients with personal care, including bathing, oral care, dressing, bed-making and maintaining a clean environment.
Assists patients with maintaining mobility including ambulation, transfer, turning and range of motion exercises.
Assists patients with nutrition and hydration.
Assists patients with elimination including specimen collection, emptying ostomy bags and catheter care.
Participates in data gathering on assigned patients and documents them in the medical record. This includes vital signs, blood glucose checks, height, weight, intake and output. Also needs to recognize and report abnormal findings.
Has knowledge of and maintains competency in the assistive devices used in patient care.
Performs CCIRH specific competencies of removal of peripheral IV catheters, discontinuation of Foley catheters and discontinuation of nasogastric tubes after direction by a registered nurse.

State of Florida Certification preferred.
High School Diploma or G.E.D required. HOSA program graduates preferred.
Completion of an EMT or nursing assistant's course or equivalent, or a nursing student who has completed fundamentals and at least one clinical rotation in an acute care setting.
Must attend annual N. A. update and other programs deemed appropriate by charge nurse/director.
Attends programs that are required by regulatory and/or accreditation agencies.
Current BLS Certification required from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
One (1) year of nursing assistant experience preferred.
Basic computer skills, including ability to use computer keyboard and mouse.
