Oversees the running of the hospital off shift for all departments that have involvement with patient care. Coordinates staffing and patient placement.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Nursing Administrative Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian includes:

  • Manages human and material resources efficiently and prioritizes needs.

  • Analyzes staffing levels and adjusts nursing staff resources based upon patient volume variability, acuity, staff competency, and available support staff.

  • Coordinates bed control in collaboration with nurse manager, assistant nurse manager and/or designee for timely patient movement and placement throughout the facility, nursing units and transfers to other facilities. Prioritizes multiple demands for appropriate bed placement.

  • Obtains necessary supplies and equipment as needed.

  • Monitors specialty equipment utilization for appropriateness of use, discontinuation and accurate charging processes.

  • Supervises nursing staff on the delivery of nursing services to patients in respective divisions on designated shift.

  • Acts as clinical resource person in the delivery of patient care during designated shift. Provides support and direction to staff, oversights new orientees and resources needed related to equipment, staff, and pharmacy-related issues.

  • Participates and evaluates nursing performance and communicates findings to nursing administration/nurse managers.

  • Collaborates and analyzes staff levels in relation to patient acuity and intervenes according.

  • Coordinates/initiates the on-call system for surgical cases on weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing

  • Current New Jersey license plus

  • BS in Nursing required

  • CPR required. ACLS preferred

  • IV and critical care certifications preferred

  • Four years medical-surgical and critical care nursing experience

  • Two years of administrative or supervisory expertise preferred

The Staffing Coordinator, under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Administrative Supervisor (AS), performs accurate review to modify and correct employee schedules, timesheets, punches and exception schedules, for staff assignment to nursing units. Responsibilities * Prepares, troubleshoots and resolves daily and future staffing and scheduling matters to maintain staffing guidelines to maximize the delivery of quality care and to minimize cost of patient care services * Plans, organizes and prioritizes tasks and schedule to meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment * Utilize and demonstrate in-depth working knowledge of interdepartmental and/or hospital wide computerized scheduling and staffing systems functionality in PeopleSoft, Ansos * Posts and approves shift opportunities * Generates new schedules and brings in absence requests * Understands patterns and scheduling multiple jobs * Performs schedule edits and updates via Ansos and PeopleSoft * Ensures absences and schedule changes are in Ansos and PeopleSoft * Performs Payroll edits * Utilizes technology (M/S word, outlook, excel) to maintains staffing files, reports, prepares data related to staffing and scheduling, audits, and documentation efficiently and accurately. * Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Qualifications * 2-3 years minimum of recent administrative and staffing experience preferred * Proficient in computer skills * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, such as excel (pivot tables, vlookup and formulas, spreadsheets); word (mail merge, tables), outlook (email, calendars, tasks) * Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy * Ability to demonstrate active listening skills * Superior customer service * Effective problem-solving skills * Strong attention to detail * Excellent communication and time management skills Hackensack University Medical Center Old Bridge NJ
