Job Summary: The nurse practitioner serves as a key clinical provider and team member in the treatment and management of the surgical patient in the operative, emergency department, med/surg floor and intensive care unit settings. He/she will practice under the direction of the Chief of Surgery and other attending surgeons in a manner consistent with both the Board of Registration in Medicine regulations and hospital policy. Primarily, this individual will cover patients of BID-Needham physicians credentialed in the Department of Surgery and will also work collaboratively with the Critical Care Intensivist and Hospitalist on the med/surg floor and Intensive Care Unit. The nurse practitioner is responsible for the initial assessment and admission of patients; assisting in the evaluation and preparation of patients for surgery; caring for patients following surgery and in the intensive care unit setting.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates collaborative efforts with health team members such as nurses, social workers, infection control staff, etc.

  • Demonstrates compassion and professionalism and a commitment to excellent patient care.

  • Demonstrates compliance to the hospital's Code of Conduct and Employee Standards of Behavior.

  • Must be able to work with autonomy within Massachusetts law under direction of supervising physician.

  • Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exams (where indicated) on surgical patients admitted through the Emergency Department and on those held for Observation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nurse Practitioner required.

  • License Nurse Practitioner License required., and Registration Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.

  • 0-1 years related work experience required in Postgraduate experience as a surgical nurse practitioner.

  • Must be approved by the Board of Directors BID-Needham

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
