STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education / Training:

  • Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing.

o External hires: Must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing Program (BSN) required.

o Internal BH employees: May be enrolled in a BSN or ADN program. ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.

  • RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.

Transcripts at the time of hire.

B. Work Experience:

Clinical experience as a Student Nurse and additional clinical experience preferred.

Completed fundamentals of nursing and one medical surgical clinical rotation required.

C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Current BLS required.

D. Other Qualifications:

On the job training after successful completion of orientation and successful completion of competency validation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Duties Nurse Tech may not perform:
1.NGT: insertion, irrigation, removal, feeding, specimen collection or gastrostomy

Feeding
2.Tracheostomy care
3.Administration of medications
4.A-line and central line draws and dressing changes
5.Administration of blood
6.Foley catheter irrigation
7.Care plan initiation
8.Crash cart checking
9.Obtaining signature on consents
10. Taking or noting physician orders
11. Initial physical assessment

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Tech is responsible for direct patient care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Nurse Tech will provide care according to Beaumont policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Performs activities under the direction of the RN, per job description and competency skill validation.

  • Applies the Core Concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) in practice, and uses this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family.

  • Partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care with the RN.

  • Recognizes the roles of the interdisciplinary team, patient and family care partners and utilizes them appropriately as resources in planning patient care.

  • Documents patient information and required data in appropriate areas of the electronic medical record.

  • Seeks ongoing learning experiences in order to keep current with practice and promote self-growth.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Chain of Command process and initiates as needed.

IV venipuncture, IV tubing changes, administration of IV fluids, changing a patient gown while on an IV pump may be performed with demonstrated competency on approved units per site.

The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Beaumont policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge needs of patient/family/significant other. * Applies the Core Concepts of Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) in practice, and uses this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family. * Partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care. * Provides quality care that meets or exceeds the expectations of value (core measures, quality matrix, patient experience, fiscally responsible). * Recognizes the roles of the interdisciplinary team, patient and family care partners and utilizes them appropriately as resources in planning patient care. * Delegates appropriate tasks. * Demonstrates knowledge of and competently performs technical procedures and uses equipment properly. * Documents in the patient record in a timely, accurate and concise manner. Develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record. * Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and is responsible for continuing personal education, mentoring peers and educating patients and families. * Stays up to date with current health system initiatives and incorporates evidence based practice and research into practice. STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Diploma, A.D.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., DNP/PhD – if not minimum BSN prepared, new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year experience is required to sign an educational contract upon hire to complete BSN within specified timeframe and adhere to contract stipulations. RN must enroll in an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of hire date and complete within the next three (3) years. This is effective September 1, 2017. Specialty Certification highly recommended after 2 years in specialty. Certification, Licensure, Registration: RN with active license in State of Michigan Other Qualifications: Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification and other certifications as required by department. * Critical Care: ACLS within 6 months of hire/transfer * Emergency Care: ACLS within 6 months of hire/transfer, TNCC and ENPC within 12 and 15 months of hire/transfer respectively. * NICU NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer * Pediatrics: PALS within 12 months of hire/transfer * Family Birth Center: NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer * Family Birth Center: EFM within 1 year of hire/transfer * Mother Baby Care: NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer * Pre-Op and PACU requires ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire * Endoscopy: ACLS required * Radiology: ACLS within 6 months of hire Beaumont Hospitals Taylor MI
