About the unit

The Zeeland Hospital Float Pool cross trains to Med Surg, ICU, and Emergency departments. The Float Pool offers an opportunity to learn a broader skill set and provide coverage for nursing departments. You are able to enhance your skills by working in these departments while still feeling like you belong to a team. Float pool team members must have 6 months of experience in one department to be eligible for the float pool.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required

• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

• Must have 6 months of experience in one department to be eligible for the float pool.

• Knowledge to medical terminology is preferred
