Nurse Supervisor

Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC) is a licensed psychiatric hospital that conducts forensic competency evaluations, competency restoration, and criminal responsibility evaluations for pre-trail patients. The facility also provides inpatient treatment for individuals who have been adjudicated incompetent to stand trial and are held on a civil commitment order. All patients at KCPC are court-ordered under KRS 504.080, KRS 504.110, or KRS 202C. KCPC serves all 120 counties and is located in a secure facility on the grounds of Luther Luckett correctional Complex in Lagrange, Kentucky.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Supervises all nursing services and personnel during a shift at Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.

• Supervise all floor nurses and charge nurses for assigned shift. Assign units according to patient and facility needs and to each nurse's talents, capabilities and training. Coordinates the scheduling of nurses as needed.

• Acts as Director of Nursing (DON) in the DON's absence. My also act in the absence of the following positions: Employee Health Nurse, Quality Improvement Nurse, and Infection Control Nurse. Teach and schedule in service and distribute changes in protocol, policy and procedures and directives. Participates in new nurse selections, hiring and training.

• Develop policy and procedure with chairperson, critique nursing practices at shift level, and work with others supervisor provide continuity of patient care.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Advanced knowledge of psychiatric nursing.

• Demonstrates competence in a range of nursing skills and advanced clinical skills.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: (See Special Requirements)

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
