Murdoch is currently recruiting for a Nurse Supervisor I (NSI) located in Newport Cottage. Newport Cottage serves 23 males in 2 living units.

Ages vary from 20 years to 67 years of age.  Behavior management plays a key role in all aspects of programming.  Behavioral medication management and promoting education and independence with medications are major nursing duties in these divisions.

 Newport's person-centered philosophy is to assist each person in attaining the skills and abilities necessary to function as independently as possible in the least restrictive environment. The program strives to create a safe, homelike atmosphere, providing many opportunities for work, relaxation, and recreation.

The primary purpose of the NSI is to provide administrative and clinical supervision for 8 nursing positions in Newport. This Nurse Supervisor supervises full-time licensed nurses  (RN and LPN); collaborates with the interdisciplinary team; provides professional guidance related to health care services; provides essential coverage and administers medications/treatments; assures provision of minimum nursing coverage, is accountable for assessing nursing needs; coordinates and monitors the provision of health care; monitors for quality assurance, plans for utilization of resources, provides training to licensed and unlicensed staff, and collaborates with Nursing Administration to meet needs of persons served.

Scheduled work hours/shift:  1st shift, 8:00am-4:30pm, 5 days/week with some schedule adjustments to 6:30am-3pm, 11:30am-8pm and occasional 12-hour shift (6:30am-7pm) on weekends. Flexibility is required for schedule adjustment as needed/required.

This is a full time position and eligible for the full state benefits package including Health Insurance, paid sick/vacation/holidays,retorement, etc.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months(the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
  • the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

This Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
