Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Specialist- Cancer Center.

In this role, the successful candidate Supports Departments of Nursing quality and safety programs. Provides quality improvement facilitation and support for nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams undertaking improvement initiatives.

Supports evidence based practice and nursing research within the Departments of Nursing. Participates in monitoring of regulatory compliance, identifies opportunities for improvement, and assists patient care units with development and implementation of improvement strategies. Participates in occurrence reviews, complaint investigation, RCAs, and FMEAs and assists in facilitation of the corrective action plans with nursing leadership and staff. Assists with benchmarking activities through National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), University Healthsystem Consortium (UHC) and other organizations as appropriate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the organziations Quality Safety and Performance Improvement Plan. Utilizes and communicates evidence based practice in the development of the quality & performance program of the Department.Facilitates the development and dissemination of nursing knowledge and research that supports coordinated, resource efficient quality outcomes.

  • Articulates understanding of nursing process, interdisciplinary collaboration, quality and performance management, patient safety, continuum of care concepts, customer service and healthy work environments.

  • Demonstrates understanding and implications of nurse-sensitive quality and other clinical indicators.

  • Demonstrates understanding of nursing and patient care standards as integral to and supportive of professional practice.

  • Demonstrates understanding of the value of professional nursing, the conceptual framework in which it is practiced, and the features of an organization that attracts and retains nurses.

  • Assists with review and development of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental structure standards, process and outcome standards in conjunction with other nursing leadership.

  • Assists in review and evaluation of occurrences related to nursing care reported through the electronic occurrence system and patient complaints related to nursing care.

  • Participates in RCAs, FMEAs and assists in implementation and monitoring of corrective action plans.

  • Assists unit based leadership and partnering for quality teams in developing performance improvement initiatives that reflect their specialty and that achieve improved patient outcomes.

  • Supports the Director of Nursing Quality with coordination of the Departments of Nursing Quality & Patient Safety Council and Nursing Practice Council.

  • Coordinates activities to promote compliance with all regulatory requirements. Supports unit based leadership by developing tools to monitor outcomes at the unit level.

    Provides support for quality improvement teams including arranging meetings, providing minutes, managing project timelines, and preparing reports. Participates in development of presentations, reports and publications. Establishes collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, medical staff, and other administrative staff.

  • Participates as a member of various Nursing Councils and other hospital committees as appropriate. Leads NYULMC teams in participation of quality collaboratives offered by member organizations such as UHC and GNYHA.

    Functions as a respectful member of the healthcare team.1. Provides education to various levels of nursing staff in the use of performance improvement methodologies as applicable to nursing quality.2. Supports evidence based practice by assisting nursing staff in development of process standards that are consistent with evidence based literature, regulatory requirements, and pertinent professional nursing standards.

  • Stays informed about current clinical practice.Participates in leadership development programs in areas pertinent to expertise and interest.

  • Uses sound methodology in analyzing data, evaluating outcomes and driving excellence.Maintains current knowledge of trends and issues pertaining to nursing work environments and the Departments of Nursing strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York. Bachelors Degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required or in progress.

Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience in acute care nursing with demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent writing, editing, and graphic skills; excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; possesses good understanding of performance improvement methodology; self-directed, understands change management, professional practice, project management, and current issues and trends in nursing and health care.

Computer expertise in Microsoft Office applications and expertise in analyzing, interpreting and presenting data using graphs, tables, etc. Certification in speciality area desirable.

Membership in relevant professional organizations.

Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities..

Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Basic Life Support Cert

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $118,613.99 - $140,000.00 Annually.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
