UMass Memorial Health seeks an Endoscopy/Motility Lab Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our expanding division.

Position Highlights:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) would join our Department of GI/Endoscopy at UMass Memorial Medical Center. The position is a 32-hour position (4 x 8 hour shifts) with no call, weekends or holidays. This position will be a primarily procedural based position, providing testing for GI motility disorders.

  • Assesses and documents patient acuity level, additional testing and/or consults with referring provider for any site/campus location recommendation or change in tests ordered in advance of procedure(s) for safe and efficient scheduling and care.

  • Verifies no major changes in patient health history and as needed, addresses clinical patient questions from the time of initial scheduling and leading up to the procedure(s).

  • Prescribes medications from Schedules II-VI. The form of prescription may be written or verbal via telephone order. Written prescriptions may be initiated by the APP after consultation with the referring provider. APP must have obtained proper registration numbers from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Drug Enforcement Agency.

  • Provides patient education before, during, and/or after procedures. Works collaboratively with referring physicians/providers to communicate all procedure descriptions, differences, and results.

  • Within established protocols, performs GI manometry, pH, and Impedance procedures for the endoscopy department.

  • Responsible for the interpretation and written report(s) of these procedures.

  • Provider should have a good understanding of moderate sedation guidelines. This includes ACLS + certification.

  • Provider will be expected to maintain clear communication between scheduling, staff, and providers.

  • Provider will assess and maintain Esophageal Manometry and pH equipment daily.

Position Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree.

  • Graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program with certification.

  • Current Massachusetts license.

  • ACLS +

  • Massachusetts Controlled Substances License.

Experience/Skills:

  • Ideal candidates would possess good organizational skills and ability to coordinate patient care pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post procedure.

  • Proficient in EPIC EMR.

  • Ability to practice independently and as part of team.

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of experience.

  • Previous experience in procedural areas, surgical or critical care.

  • Ability to care for patients ages 13+.

  • GI experience is preferred but not mandatory.
