JOB SUMMARY The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive outpatient wound care services under the direction of the Wound Care Program Medical Director. PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned: Maintains efficient clinic workflow. Assesses client for education needs: client and family regarding health promotion wound management including disease process medications, prevention and recognition of complications and self-care Functions within limit and scope of Nurse Practice Act. Within the Wound Care Clinical setting: Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patients# medical, physical, and psychosocial status. Identify medical and health risks and needs as it relates to the patient. Formulate the appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and clinical findings. Perform minimally invasive diagnostic procedures associated with wound care including shave and punch skin biopsy, superficial abscess incision and drainage, wound debridement, and wound edge excision. Order appropriate diagnostic tests. Prescribe pharmacologic agents. Conduct and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests. Provide patient, family, and caregiver education. Collaborate with and make appropriate referrals to other health professionals. Formulates treatment plans including ordering appropriate wound care therapies and dressings, topical and/or systemic therapies, and skin substitute applications as appropriate. Listens to clients and families and offers reassurance and emotional support. Respects dignity of client and maintains confidentiality of records and verbal communications. Provides telephone triage, facilitates referrals, and uses assessment skills and clinic protocols to respond to medical questions from clients. Maintains accurate patient records. Records care and teaching provided; assessment of client response and / or understanding. Maintains health and safety standards within the clinic environment, including quality control, infection control, management of hazardous materials and security. JOB KNOWLEDGE # QUALIFICATIONS Education Graduate of an accredited NP or ARNP program. Training and Experience One (1) year experience as an NP preferred. Successful completion of an accepted program in Wound Care Nursing. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations WA State NP License. Current BLS certification required. Wound Care Board Certification within 2 years preferred

Education
