Performs higher level administrative and clinical duties under the direct on-site supervision of the Practice Manager and Medical Director in the ambulatory setting. Oversees the training and competencies of the CMA staff.
High school graduation or equivalent.
5 years CMA experience or 1 year in CMA supervisory role. 2 years in medical office or ambulatory health environment.
CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) through American Association of Medical Assistants, or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) through American Medical Technologists, or certification/registration from a nationally recognized agency. CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Clinical competency as verified annually. Advanced computer skills required. Advanced training as a health coach. Ongoing leadership skills training required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Acts as a health coach to patients to assess readiness and ability to overcome health obstacles.
Conducts staff meetings and regularly distributes and ensures receipt of information regarding new developments, policies and procedures.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Cross-trained/serves as backup for health team members including: registrars, HIM, Referral Coordinators, Coders, Care Coordinators and Master MA as required.
Implements, monitors, and reinforces MedStar policies and procedures. Recommends new or modified policies and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve staff performance. Works with the Practice Manager to create an efficient practice.
Mentors staff by aligning with the mission and values of the organization. Fosters staff development.
Monitors logs to assure quality control.
Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement initiatives.
Performs all technical duties and responsibilities of a medical assistant.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provides adequate training of new MA employees and conducts competency testing for all medical assistants. Ensures that certifications are kept current.
Provides population management through the use of outreach calls to proactively reach out to patients through risk stratification tools.
With direction from the Practice Manager, assists with MA employee recruitment and retention, employee relations, performance management, performance evaluation, and all other personnel actions for their staff. Actively works to create a cohesive and productive work team.
