Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Spine Center-Worcester, MA

Opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team in the ambulatory setting caring for patients with spinal problems in collaboration with the department of neurosurgery, orthopedic spine surgery, physiatry, and pain management. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will practice in our Spine Center clinic located at the Memorial Campus. The APP will evaluate new, follow-up, and post-operative patients, order appropriate tests and treatments, and coordinate any subsequent follow-up care. The patient will have clinical practice management responsibilities including returning clinical patient phone calls, triaging incoming referrals, responding to patient portal messages, and other clinical-administrative tasks that arise.

The APP will have 4 ten-hour shifts per week with time to provide patient care in clinic and dedicated clinical practice management time built into the daily schedule.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides diagnostic and assessment services. Secures a health history from patient and/or family, records findings, and evaluates them. Performs a complete in-depth physical examination. Orders/performs pertinent diagnostic tests based on age and history.

  • Analyzes data collected to determine health status and identify differential diagnoses based on history, physical exam, and clinical findings.

  • Partners with physicians regarding proposed plan of care. Formulates this plan of care with the patient.

  • Manages therapeutic regime as outlined by established protocols for patients with acute illnesses. (Protocols are guidelines concerning patient care that are established between the physician and APP. The guidelines outline subjective and objective findings, treatment plan and follow-up). Reassess and modify plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals.

  • Collaborates with physician for clinical direction as outlined by protocols.

  • Documents patient care outcomes to determine effectiveness of plan of care. Collaborates with physician.

  • This is a full-time position, 40 hrs. Shifts are 10 hours, 4 days per week, no call, no weekends

Position Qualifications:

  • Master or Doctoral degree from an NP or PA accredited program and board certification is required

  • Current Massachusetts license

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience/Skills:

  • Prefer 1-3 years of clinical experience.

  • Prefer prior experience in neurosurgery, orthopedics, physiatry, or pain management. Open to motivated candidates with other types of experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare team.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
