Position description

The Radiation Oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) will work closely with a team of two physicians and a registered nurse (our department care team model), evaluating outpatient Radiation Oncology patients for treatment, contributing to the treatment plan, and managing the care of patients undergoing radiation therapy. The incumbent will be part of a team of fifteen NP/PA providers.

The NP/PA may also have the unique opportunity to practice independently-managing an individual calendar of patients seen for follow up visits-as well as work collaboratively with team physicians to see new consults and weekly patient treatment visits. Provision of care may include comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, comprehensive patient education, and psychosocial support of the patient and family experiencing cancer. Inpatient hospital consults will also be seen by the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, in collaboration with a consultant.

The NP/PA will have the opportunity to grow professionally by providing cross-coverage for other subspecialty radiation oncology physicians at Charlton SL Desk R/Jacobson SL West. NP/PA's are encouraged to participate in research and publications, as well as quality improvement projects.

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certified as a FNP.

Or, a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.

Additional qualifications

Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.

Position description Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) is one of the largest NP/PA practices at Mayo Clinic- Rochester. As NP/PA hospitalists, we pride ourselves by working at the top of our scope of practice with a significant amount of autonomy, requiring providers to stay up to date with the latest evidence based medicine. NP/PAs participate in all aspects of care of the hospitalized patient including admissions, discharges, daily rounds and patient education. HIM is comprised of various medical services specializing in general internal medicine, geriatrics, telemetry, perioperative medicine, and medical hematology and oncology. Each service consists of a partnership with Physician, NP/PA, and Desk Operations Specialist staff. The team works together with consulting services to provide collaborative care to a complex and diverse patient population. 24/7 coverage of hospitalist patients is provided by NP/PAs, with additional compensation for evenings, nights and weekends. In addition to clinical practice, many of the NP/PA's serve in respected positions within the division and institution. Leadership opportunities occur within Administration, Practice, Quality Improvement, Research, Education and Personnel committees. As a new member of the division, there are many opportunities to partner with NP/PA and physician colleagues in research and quality improvement projects. Additionally, the division of HIM serves as a training ground for NP and PA students, medical students, and HIM fellows, providing ample opportunity to be involved in clinical education.
